XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — BMW X5 E70 4WD (NON AIR STRUT) 2007-2013

The E70 X5 is the wrong shape for drifting on paper – a 2.2-tonne SUV on a long wheelbase with permanent xDrive splitting torque front-to-rear. That is precisely why building one is interesting, and why the suspension under it has to do work that no road-going coilover was ever asked to do. The Drift Spec kit is built for that brief: holding a heavy chassis at a sustained angle without the body rolling away from you mid-transition.

This kit fits the non-air-strut E70 specifically – the steel-sprung cars rather than the optional air-suspended variants – which is the right starting point for any drift build because you are deleting a system that was never going to survive the abuse anyway. With a lowered ride height and a properly set bump stroke, the X5’s behaviour at the limit becomes something you can actually steer with the throttle instead of fighting.

What this coilover kit does for your 2007-2013 Bmw X5 E70 4WD (NON AIR STRUT)

Body control is the headline gain. The standard E70 dives, squats and rolls in a way that masks what the chassis is doing at the contact patch – acceptable for a family SUV, useless when you are trying to read the rear tyres mid-slide. The Drift Spec damping is calibrated to keep the body flat through fast transitions so the chassis stops oscillating between left and right entries. Lowered ride height drops the centre of gravity and shortens the lever arm working against you in roll. The shorter, properly matched bump stroke means you can run aggressive spring rates without the chassis crashing through travel under load. On a 2.2-tonne SUV that is the difference between an SUV that pretends to drift and one that actually holds an angle.

About the Drift Spec coilover

The Drift Spec is engineered for one job – competitive drifting – and the design choices reflect that single-mindedness. The geometry and damping curves are set up to stabilise the body during high-speed turn-in, which is where most drift attempts on a heavy chassis fall apart. The kit is intended to be run lower than a road setup, with the bump stroke matched to that lowered ride height so the suspension still has usable travel when the inside front unloads and the outside rear is fully loaded. Spring and damper specifications are biased toward holding angle and resisting the roll-induced understeer that ruins transitions on a long-wheelbase 4WD car. This is not a fast-road coilover with stiffer settings – it is a separate calibration philosophy aimed at the specific physics of sustained sideways travel.

Fitment for the Bmw X5 E70 (2007-2013)

This kit fits the E70 chassis X5 in 4WD form, specifically the non-air-strut variant – chassis code BM69-1-1 covering the 2007 to 2013 production run. If your car has the optional air suspension at either axle, this kit is not the correct application.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.
