XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK6 4WD φ55 (Modified Rear Integrated) 2008-2012

The Golf MK6 4Motion carries its Haldex-coupled rear differential and driveshaft where a front-wheel-drive Golf carries nothing, and that extra mass over the back axle changes how the car settles under trail braking into a fast corner. XYZ Racing’s Racing Spec coilover is built around that reality, with a modified rear-integrated mounting arrangement that clears the 4WD hardware rather than fighting it.

For a car that’s going to see repeat sessions at Cadwell or Anglesey rather than the school run, that matters. The Racing Spec kit gives the MK6 4Motion the front-to-rear balance adjustability a car with driven rear wheels actually needs, instead of a generic strut that assumes an empty rear subframe.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2012 Volkswagen GOLF MK6 4WD φ55 (Modified Rr Integrated)

With the Haldex system sending torque rearward under load, the MK6 4Motion can mask mid-corner rotation that a front-drive Golf would show earlier – Racing Spec’s per-corner damping adjustment lets you wind stiffness into the rear to bring that rotation back into the driver’s hands rather than the diff’s. The 55mm strut body increases oil volume over a standard-diameter damper, which matters on a car carrying extra driveline mass: more fluid means more consistent damping force as the shock heats up across a 20-minute track session instead of fading on lap twelve. Ride height is adjustable independent of spring preload, so you can drop the nose to counter the 4Motion’s slightly nose-light stance under power without disturbing the spring’s working range. The modified rear-integrated design keeps the coilover body clear of the rear differential and driveshaft, so the extra hardware that makes this Golf a 4WD car in the first place isn’t compromising strut travel.

About the Racing Spec coilover

Racing Spec is the damper XYZ Racing builds directly off its WTCC programme – the valving isn’t a road kit turned up, it’s the same base development used in touring car competition, adapted for road-legal use. Where a car has already had aggressive supporting modifications – bigger brakes, wider track, a built engine putting down real power, the kind of spec you’d see on an A-class circuit car – XYZ Racing will build a bespoke damper around that specification rather than a fixed off-the-shelf valving curve. That’s done by working directly with the buyer: send over what’s already been changed on the car and which circuit it’s built for, and the shock absorber gets tuned to that combination rather than a generic track setting. For most MK6 4Motion track cars the standard Racing Spec calibration covers the brief, but the option to go custom is there for cars pushed further.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK6 (2008-2012)

This kit is built specifically for the 4WD φ55 (Modified Rr Integrated) variant of the Golf MK6 4Motion, chassis code VO20-A, covering the 2008 to 2012 production run. The modified rear-integrated construction is the correct spec for 4Motion cars – do not fit a standard 2WD Golf MK6 coilover to a 4Motion chassis, as the rear geometry and driveline clearance differ.
