XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Renault MEGANE SEDAN φ47 2002-2008

Closed tarmac stages don’t forgive a soft rear end, and the Megane II Sedan’s torsion-beam rear axle was never tuned for flat-out compressions over blind crests and mid-corner camber changes. At stage speed, the standard dampers run out of control long before the tyre does, and the car starts to skip rather than track.

The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover is built specifically for that discipline: closed-road events run on sealed surfaces at full commitment, where the car needs to absorb a hard hit and be settled again before the next apex, not several metres later. This isn’t a fast-road compromise kit – it’s a damper tuned around one job.

What this coilover kit does for your 2002-2008 Renault Megane Sedan

Fitted to the RE05-chassis Megane Sedan, the kit’s primary job is controlling what happens the instant a wheel meets a mid-stage ridge or pothole at speed: the damping absorbs that jolt rather than passing it straight into the body, so the chassis stays flat and the inside rear wheel stays loaded instead of unweighting off a crest. That control keeps the contact patch working, which is where the traction gain actually comes from – not a stiffer spring alone, but a damper that lets the tyre keep talking to the tarmac through a rough section. On a front-driven Sedan like this, that translates into a rear axle that stays planted on turn-in instead of stepping out over broken surfaces, and a front end that resists the diving and wallowing that a torsion-beam Megane is prone to when the standard dampers are asked to do rally-pace work. The net result on stage is a car that holds its line through the bumps instead of skating over them.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally coilover is XYZ Racing’s damper for sealed-surface competition, built around the specific hits a closed-road stage throws at a car: sudden compressions, big single bumps, and repeated camber changes taken at pace. Internally, the valving is set to absorb a hard jolt without transmitting it into the body shell, which is what keeps the tyre loaded and stops the car from skipping across rough tarmac mid-corner. The damping curve and spring rate combination are drawn directly from XYZ’s own Tarmac Rally programme rather than adapted from a road or track-day base kit, so the settings reflect what the car actually needs on a stage rather than a generic fast-road compromise. The goal is a chassis that stays composed and predictable when the surface underneath it isn’t, which is the difference between a car a driver can push flat and one they have to back off for.
