XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Porsche 996 TURBO 4/4S 2003-2005

The 996 Turbo’s AWD drivetrain pushes the all-in weight closer to 1,600kg than any air-cooled Porsche reached – and the front-mounted intercoolers add mass ahead of the axle line where even the rear-engined layout can’t fully compensate. Taking that car onto a gravel stage or rallycross circuit places demands on the suspension that the standard setup’s short travel and road-biased valving cannot answer. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilovers for the Porsche 996 Turbo 4/4S are the hardware built for that specific challenge.

Developed around the demands of loose, high-speed competitive surfaces – sandstone, silt, snow – the Gravel Rally kit uses an inverted tube damper construction and extended stroke springs to keep the 996’s considerable mass under control where the road underneath it is anything but consistent.

What this coilover does for your 2003-2005 Porsche 996 TURBO 4/4S

The 996 Turbo’s AWD layout distributes cornering loads differently from any rear-wheel-drive 911: the front differential and transmission add weight ahead of the front axle, changing how the car generates lateral g-force through fast corners on loose surfaces. The inverted tube damper construction handles those side-loads with greater structural rigidity at the strut body than a conventional design provides – relevant specifically when compression inputs are stacked rapidly over broken ground. Extended spring travel absorbs the sequential compressions that a gravel stage generates, preventing the bottoming-out that would make an otherwise capable car undriveable. Spring rates in this kit were confirmed by rally team testing rather than extrapolated from a road-car damping curve.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is XYZ Racing’s dedicated competition damper for stage rally and rallycross – disciplines where the road surface itself acts as an obstacle. Of all motorsport surface categories, rallycross places the most severe demands on a suspension: loose aggregate, ruts, and repeated high-speed landings that defeat conventional damping hardware quickly. The inverted tube configuration places the larger diameter cylinder at the base of the strut assembly, improving resistance to the bending forces and side-loads that accumulate across a rough stage. Long springs paired with extended stroke travel keep the wheels in contact through the high-frequency, high-amplitude inputs a gravel section delivers – the specification covers a range of surfaces from sandstone and silt through to snow, each imposing different velocity and compliance demands on the damper. Every spring rate in the Gravel Rally range was validated through on-event rally racing team testing before release.

Fitment for the Porsche 996 TURBO 4/4S (2003-2005)

These coilovers are developed for the Porsche 996 Turbo 4/4S on chassis code PO03, covering 2003 to 2005 model years. The fitment applies specifically to the all-wheel drive Turbo variants within this 996 generation. Confirm your chassis code and build sheet before ordering if the front or rear subframe has been subject to competition modifications.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball top mountPillow ballPSolid pillow-ball (spherical bearing) upper — chosen for rigidity and precise camber adjustment, the sharpest steering response of the options.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
