XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Nissan PULSAR N16 2000-2005

Front-wheel drive on gravel is a discipline of its own. The N16 Pulsar’s compact platform – a car that found a following in Australian and New Zealand club rally through the early 2000s – puts every demand through the front axle simultaneously: drive, steering, and the initial bite of braking. Factory dampers were never designed for that loading on a rough stage.

The Gravel Rally coilover addresses this directly. Built around inverted-tube damper technology and long-travel spring geometry, the XYZ Racing kit transforms the 2000-2005 Nissan Pulsar N16 from a road car pressed into service into something that can sustain pace on sandstone, snow, or silt.

What this coilover does for your 2000-2005 Nissan PULSAR N16

On a gravel stage, the N16’s front end is exposed the moment standard dampers bottom out over a crest or sidewall-scrub a rut. The Gravel Rally’s long-stroke design absorbs those inputs – the violent ones that arrive at high speed on a bouncy, unpredictable surface – while keeping the front tyres in contact long enough to do something useful with the car. For a FWD chassis where traction is the resource you are always managing, that contact time is not abstract. Spring rates were validated by a rally racing team against the actual conditions this kit was built for, not modelled on a road car compromise.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally series starts from a specific observation: of all competition surfaces, rally cross roads are the most aggressive environment a damper faces. XYZ’s response is an inverted-tube construction – the main working cylinder sits inside the outer body, away from stone strike and surface debris, while also reducing unsprung mass at the top of the assembly. Long springs and extended-stroke travel work together to absorb chassis vibration from high-speed, rutted terrain, resist the g-forces generated in fast and committed direction changes, and manage the surface transitions – where firm sandstone gives way to snow pack or loose silt – that define a gravel stage. Every spring rate setting in the range has been tested through rally racing competition, not derived from road car geometry.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
