The Starion’s turbocharged, rear-wheel-drive layout was built for a straight tarmac blast, which is exactly why loose surfaces expose it so quickly – boost arrives, the rear axle unloads, and a standard-travel damper runs out of shaft before the wheel has finished searching for grip. The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is built around that problem, not around a circuit lap time.
Extended front and rear travel gives the MT34 chassis somewhere to put a wheel when the surface drops away mid-corner, and the increased suspension oil and nitrogen gas volume keeps shock temperatures under control when a stage or a rallycross run keeps the dampers working for far longer than a tarmac session ever would.
What this coilover does for your 1982-1990 Mitsubishi STARION WELDING
On loose surfaces the Starion’s turbo delivery makes wheelspin and axle hop easy to provoke, and this kit’s longer stroke buys the rear axle the extra buffer distance needed to keep the car settled through compressions and ruts rather than skipping across them. The larger oil and nitrogen gas capacity means the damping stays consistent from the first stage kilometre to the last, instead of fading as the oil heats up under sustained rough-road work. Three external adjustment knobs let you soften the low-speed compression for snow and deep gravel or firm it up for a hard-packed forest stage, without pulling the dampers apart to change shims. For a car this light on standard suspension travel, that extra buffer distance is the difference between a Starion that tracks straight over a crest and one that snaps sideways.
About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover
This is a damper built specifically for rally and rallycross use, not a road coilover pressed into service off-tarmac. The longer front and rear travel is the headline change, giving both axles a bigger buffer distance to absorb landings and compressions and keep the car stable rather than pattering. XYZ Racing has increased the internal suspension oil and nitrogen gas volume over a standard road-spec damper specifically to manage heat – long stages generate far more continuous shock movement than a track lap, and running the oil too hot is what kills damping consistency. The three adjustment knobs use a small oil-hole metering design; on big hits you may hear a faint noise as oil passes through that restriction, which is normal and not a fault. It is a deliberate trade-off for control rather than silence, and the kit is built with exactly that priority – a Starion that stays composed over broken, loose ground for the length of a full stage.
Fitment for the Mitsubishi STARION WELDING (1982-1990)
Built for the MT34 chassis Starion produced between 1982 and 1990. Confirm your car matches this generation before ordering, as suspension mounting points and travel requirements changed across the Starion’s production run.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
Top mounts included with your kit
Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
Front
Pillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
Rear
Pillow ballPSolid pillow-ball (spherical bearing) upper — chosen for rigidity and precise camber adjustment, the sharpest steering response of the options.
