XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mitsubishi LANCER (CHINA MARKET ONLY) 1997-2006

China’s domestic rally calendar has given the MT28-1 Lancer a working life most economy saloons were never designed for – stages that shift between compacted sandstone, loose silt, and residual snowpack within a single competitive day. The factory dampers were not built for sustained pace on that kind of surface.

These Gravel Rally coilovers address the gap directly. Built around an inverted monotube design with long-stroke dampers and extended springs, the setup has been developed and validated by a rally racing team rather than derived from road-going specification with a multiplier applied as an afterthought.

What this coilover does for your 1997-2006 Mitsubishi Lancer (China Market Only)

Inverting the tube places the larger-diameter body at the top of the assembly, which stiffens the damper against the lateral loads generated during high-speed loose-surface cornering and reduces the flex that can compromise steering feel mid-stage. Extended springs and long-stroke dampers give the Lancer’s front axle the travel it needs to absorb the consecutive compressions from a deteriorating gravel stage without striking the bump stops – a practical detail that separates a car that finishes from one that doesn’t. The spring rates supplied with this kit were set against on-stage test data from actual rally use, so the baseline setup on the car should be usable from the opening shakedown rather than requiring a full rebuild before the first competitive run.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing designed the Gravel Rally damper around the most physically demanding surface category in competitive motorsport – events where conditions cycle between sandstone, snow, and silt in the same stage, and where the shock absorber carries more of the car’s competitiveness than any other single component. The inverted monotube construction is central to that design philosophy: inverting the tube increases structural rigidity and provides a larger bearing surface to resist the extreme G-forces generated when a light saloon changes direction at speed on loose, cambered ground. Long spring travel works alongside the extended damper stroke to manage chassis vibration through repeated high-speed compressions – the sustained input that distinguishes gravel rally from any road or circuit discipline. Spring rate selection has been validated through direct testing by a rally racing team, which means the numbers reflect what the car actually needs under competition loading, not what an algorithm suggests on paper.

Fitment for the Mitsubishi Lancer (China Market Only) (1997-2006)

These coilovers are engineered for the Mitsubishi Lancer China Market Only on chassis code MT28-1, covering production from 1997 through to 2006. Confirm your chassis designation before ordering – the China market Lancer ran across several production variants during this period and chassis code is the definitive check. Only data present in the product specification has been used above; no fitment details have been inferred.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
