XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz S CLASS W222 (NON MBC hydraulic or 4WD) 2014-2020

The W222 S-Class was designed around Mercedes’ Magic Body Control and air suspension – a brilliant system when it works, an expensive headache when the struts start to weep at 80,000 miles. For owners of the non-MBC, non-4WD W222 cars who are staring down replacement air strut quotes that read like a deposit on a hot hatch, the XYZ Racing Top Sport coilover is a different answer entirely.

This is the sporting end of the XYZ Racing range for a saloon that, at over two tonnes, was never going to be a corner-carver. What the Top Sport does is replace the OEM damping with a serviceable, height-adjustable steel coilover that brings the body down into proportion with the wheel arches and tightens the float that creeps in as factory components age.

What this coilover does for your 2014-2020 Mercedes Benz S CLASS W222 (NON MBC hydraulic or 4WD)

Drop a W222 onto a properly valved coilover and the first thing that changes is the secondary ride – the small, repeated inputs that the original setup smothered now feed through with more honesty, and the nose stops the soft initial dive under braking that defines an ageing S-Class. The 36-way damping adjustment is the meaningful part: you can run the cabin soft enough that rear passengers still get a long-wheelbase ride on the motorway, then firm the rebound circuit up for a B-road or a weekend away without touching a spanner. Ride height comes down evenly without the rake that bolt-on lowering springs leave on this chassis, which matters on a car this long. The pillow-ball top mounts on the front sharpen turn-in response that the rubber OEM mounts have been muting since the car was new. None of this turns a W222 into a sports saloon – it does turn it back into a luxury car that responds to inputs rather than absorbing them.

About the Top Sport coilover

The Top Sport sits in the fast-road end of the XYZ Racing line-up, built on the same monotube damper architecture as the more aggressive Circuit Master and Drag Racing variants but valved for street use. Spring rates are matched to the platform rather than copied across the range, and the 36-position adjuster operates on both bump and rebound through a single click, which keeps tuning practical rather than theoretical. The body is steel with a corrosion-resistant finish – relevant on UK roads in winter – and the unit is fully rebuildable, which is the point of moving away from a sealed OEM strut in the first place. Height is adjusted at the lower mount so preload stays independent of ride height, the right way round on a heavy saloon where spring frequency matters. Camber-adjustable front top mounts are included to recover the geometry lost when the car is lowered.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz S CLASS W222 (NON MBC hydraulic or 4WD) (2014-2020)

This kit is specifically for the W222 S-Class built between 2014 and 2020 in standard configuration – NOT the cars equipped from the factory with Magic Body Control hydraulic suspension, and NOT the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive variants. If your car has either of those systems, this is the wrong kit. Confirm your build sheet or VIN against a Mercedes parts lookup before ordering.

Pick your spring rate and damping spec for the W222 below and build the kit that matches how you actually use the car.

By increasing 30~50% damping or 2kg/mm spring rate than street setting; it can absorb the impact of uneven pavement. It is able to absorb the jolt when across a big bumps, effectively suppress shock body and to increase tire’s traction. Vehicle stability makes you can experience perfect handling.
