XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz CLS C218 8 CYL 2011-2018

Sustained oversteer in a two-tonne, V8-engined CLS is a different problem to solving it in a lightweight coupe: the C218’s weight transfer arrives late and hits hard, and the standard air suspension is tuned to resist exactly the body movement a drift car wants to exploit. The XYZ Racing Drift Spec coilover swaps that self-levelling compliance for a fixed, height-adjustable platform built to hold this chassis at a stable, predictable angle through sustained slides rather than fighting to correct them.

It’s a competitive-drifting setup, not a fast-road or track-day compromise. Every part of the specification – ride height, damping, and bump control – is chosen to keep the CLS’s body settled and controllable once the rear steps out, rather than to minimise cornering roll on grip.

What this coilover does for your 2011-2018 Mercedes Benz CLS C218

Lowering the C218 on this kit drops the centre of gravity and, with correct bump stroke set, gives the chassis a more settled, planted attitude the moment the rear axle breaks traction. That matters on a car this heavy: once a CLS starts to slide, uncontrolled body roll and pitch make the transition back to grip unpredictable, and a soft, self-levelling standard set-up isn’t built to hold a controlled angle under sustained lateral load. The Drift Spec’s stiffer, fixed-rate construction gives the driver a consistent platform to read and correct against, slide after slide, instead of chasing a suspension that’s constantly trying to level itself out. Set up with the correct ride height for this car’s weight and bump travel, it keeps the chassis stable enough that maintaining a clean angle through a long corner becomes a repeatable skill rather than a fight against the car.

About the Drift Spec coilover

XYZ Racing built the Drift Spec line specifically around competition drifting rather than adapting a general track kit for it. The core engineering brief is stabilising the car’s body through sustained, high-speed rotation so the driver can hold a clean angle rather than correcting a chassis that’s still moving underneath them. Ride height is dropped and bump stroke set to suit the car’s weight and the demands of extended slides, rather than tuned for outright grip or lap time. That combination – a lower, more stable body position paired with bump travel calibrated for drift loads rather than cornering compression – is what the range is built around, and it’s the reason the kit behaves differently under sustained rotation than a coilover designed primarily for circuit driving. On a car the size and mass of the CLS, that stability under load is the difference between a controllable slide and one that’s constantly correcting itself.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz CLS C218 (2011-2018)

This kit is built for the Mercedes Benz CLS C218, chassis code ME20-2, covering the 8-cylinder variants produced across the 2011 to 2018 model years. Confirm your CLS is the C218 generation and the V8 (8 CYL) variant before ordering, as suspension geometry and mounting points differ from the six-cylinder cars.

Fitting a heavy, V8-powered CLS for drift work means getting ride height and bump travel right for this exact chassis – configure yours below to match your build.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
