XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Maserati BITURBO SI φ52 welding (PCD: 4X98) 1986-1991

Rally-spec Biturbos are a different animal to road cars: the same twin-turbo layout that makes the SI quick on tarmac becomes a liability the moment the surface turns loose, with load spikes hammering through the strut every time the car finds a rut or a compression on a gravel stage. The Gravel Rally coilover is built specifically for that environment, not adapted from a track-day part.

For the Biturbo SI, that means a damper that can shrug off repeated, violent inputs over a full stage without the valving fading or the chassis losing composure mid-corner. This is the spec for owners running the SI on loose surfaces, not fast road or circuit work.

What this coilover does for your 1986-1991 Maserati BITURBO SI φ52 WELDING (PCD: 4X98)

Fitted to the Φ52-welding chassis, this coilover changes how the car absorbs the terrain rather than just how it sits. The long-stroke, long-spring configuration soaks up sustained chassis vibration from washboard gravel and repeated compressions instead of transmitting it straight into the body shell, so the SI holds its line through a rutted section instead of skipping across it. Because the setup is built to bear extreme G-force through direction changes, the rear end stays planted under the kind of hard, repeated cornering loads that a rally stage generates lap after lap of a different kind – corner after corner, not lap after lap of a circuit. Ride height and spring preload are adjustable, so you can trim the Biturbo’s stance to match tyre clearance and weight transfer for the specific stage surface you’re tackling, whether that’s sand, snow or silt.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This design starts from a simple premise: gravel and rallycross throw the roughest road conditions of any motorsport discipline at a damper, so the shock absorber becomes the single most stressed component in the car. XYZ Racing’s answer is an inverted-tube damper body, chosen specifically to cope with the changing demands of sandstone, snow and silt within the same event. The long-stroke, long-spring architecture is there to absorb chassis vibration and take the hit from high-speed, bouncy sections without the damper packing down or losing control of the wheel. It’s also built to bear extreme cornering G-force, which matters on a Biturbo given how quickly weight transfers under turbocharged power delivery. Every spring rate offered in this range has been set and tested by a rally racing team rather than derived on a flat-road rig, so the baseline settings reflect what actually works when the car is airborne or sliding, not just what measures well in a workshop.

Fitment for the Maserati BITURBO SI φ52 WELDING (PCD: 4X98) (1986-1991)

This kit is built to the Φ52 welding-type strut configuration with a 4×98 PCD, covering Biturbo SI models produced between 1986 and 1991. Confirm your chassis uses the welding-type Φ52 mounting before ordering, as Biturbo variants across this era used different strut interfaces.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
