XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Lexus GS 300/400 (S160) 1998-2005

The S160 GS carries a lot of car for gravel stage work – rear-wheel drive, double-wishbone suspension all round, and significant nose weight from either its 2JZ-GE straight-six or the 1UZ-FE V8. On sealed asphalt that weight and geometry combination rewards commitment; on sandstone or silt at competition pace, standard suspension runs out of compliance before the driver runs out of road.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Lexus GS 300/400 S160 addresses this directly. Built around an inverted tube design with long stroke and extended spring geometry, it replaces the OEM setup with hardware tested and validated by a rally racing team – not a road kit repurposed for rough use.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2005 Lexus GS 300/400

The inverted tube configuration shields the damper shaft inside the body rather than exposing it above, which matters when stone strikes and debris are constant throughout a gravel stage. The long stroke gives the S160’s double-wishbone geometry room to absorb the high-speed compressions and irregular crests that loose-surface stages generate – the kind of sustained abuse that can break the composure of a heavy rear-wheel-drive saloon on standard equipment. Spring rates across the range were set and validated by a rally team in competition conditions, so the numbers reflect real stage loads rather than theoretical modelling.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

Rallycross and gravel stage use impose the most aggressive road conditions in motorsport, and the Gravel Rally is built with that in mind. The inverted tube construction protects the damper shaft against the constant debris of competitive surfaces whilst contributing to lower unsprung mass than conventional upright damper designs. XYZ Racing developed this range across multiple surface types – sandstone, snow, and silt each impose different compliance and rate requirements – and the long-stroke, long-spring package is engineered to absorb the extreme G-forces generated through high-speed corners on loose ground. Every spring rate in the range has been tested by a rally racing team in competitive use before reaching production.

Fitment for the Lexus GS 300/400 (1998-2005)

This kit covers the S160 platform, which ran from 1998 to 2005 in GS 300 (2JZ-GE straight-six) and GS 400 (1UZ-FE V8) variants. The S160 runs independent double-wishbone suspension front and rear, and the Gravel Rally kit is a full four-corner replacement for the factory spring-and-damper assembly.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
