XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Kia PICANTO 2004-2011

The first-generation Kia Picanto was never built with sealed-stage tarmac rally in mind, but its sub-900kg kerb weight and short wheelbase make it a genuinely entertaining low-budget rally weapon – provided the suspension can cope with kerb strikes, mid-corner ruts, and the constant load shifts that come with throwing a tiny hatch at a stage road. The factory setup runs out of travel and composure long before the chassis does.

The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover for the Kia Picanto 2004-2011 is built specifically for that job: keeping a light front-drive hatchback planted and predictable when the surface stops being smooth. Settings carry over from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme, so the damper curves are not a guess.

What this coilover does for your 2004-2011 Kia Picanto

On a Picanto being hustled down a stage road, the gains are immediate and physical. The Tarmac Rally damping absorbs the jolt from larger surface impacts – kerbs, expansion joints, broken tarmac – without unsettling the body, so the front tyres stay loaded through the hit rather than skipping wide. That translates to more usable traction out of slow corners and far more confidence over a crested apex.

Shock control is the second win. Where a stock Picanto bobs and floats over secondary inputs, the Tarmac Rally setup suppresses body movement so weight transfer happens when you ask for it, not a beat later. The car feels alert under trail-braking and noticeably more stable when you have to make a mid-corner correction.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is engineered around a single brief: absorbing repeated, uneven impacts on sealed-surface stages while keeping the contact patch working. The damper valving is tuned to suppress body shock when the wheel takes a hit, then return to platform quickly enough that the chassis is ready for the next input – the difference between a car that crashes through bumps and one that flows over them.

Tyre traction is the metric XYZ Racing tunes against. By controlling shock travel under load, the coilover increases the time the tyre spends in contact with the road, which is where lap time and stage time actually live. Vehicle stability follows from the same logic: a controlled body means predictable handling balance, and predictable balance is what lets a driver commit.

The settings inside this coilover are not theoretical. They are pulled directly from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally racing experience, which is why the damper behaviour holds up across the surface variations a real stage throws at the car.
