The Jaguar S-TYPE was tuned as an executive saloon first and a driver’s car a long way second. Its standard springs and dampers prioritise a hushed motorway gait, which leaves the car floating over crests, leaning hard mid-corner and slow to settle after a mid-bend bump. On the heavier V8 and supercharged R cars, that soft front end also means the nose dives under braking and the steering goes vague exactly when you want it to load up.
