XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda CIVIC EF CRX TWIN CAM (Rear EYE) 1989-1991

The EF-generation Civic CRX with the twin-cam ZC and that distinctive rear-eye mount is a featherweight on stilts the moment you point it down a loose gravel stage. The chassis was never engineered for the abuse a Group N rally throws at it – short-travel road dampers blow through their stroke on the first set of compressions and the shell starts taking hits the suspension should have absorbed. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built specifically for that environment.

This is the kit you fit when the HN11 CRX is going to see sandstone, snow, silt and high-speed bouncy sections – not a smooth circuit. Inverted-tube construction, long-stroke shocks and matched long springs let the car attack rough surfaces hard and stay planted through compressions that would bottom a fast-road coilover in a single corner.

What this gravel rally coilover does for your 1989-1991 Honda Civic EF CRX TWIN CAM (rr EYE)

The CRX is light, short-wheelbase and twitchy on loose surfaces, which makes damping behaviour the single biggest factor in how confident the car feels between corners. The long-stroke inverted-tube damper keeps the tyre in contact with the ground over washboard sections, so the front end actually steers instead of skating across the surface. Long springs absorb the chassis vibration that normally fatigues both car and driver across a stage.

Under heavy lateral load – the sort of G-force a CRX generates when you throw it into a fast gravel sweeper – the inverted body resists flex and keeps damping consistent. The result is a car that lets you commit harder into compressions and recover faster between hits, which is where stage times come from on this platform.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is designed for rally racing and rallycross, where the road surface is the most aggressive of any motorsport discipline. XYZ Racing built it around an inverted-tube design to cope with the variety of terrain a stage throws at a car – sandstone, snow, silt and broken tarmac sections all in the same run.

The long stroke and long spring are the two defining specs. Together they let the damper absorb chassis vibration on high-speed bouncy sections and soak up the extreme G-force loads that come with attacking rough surfaces flat-out. All spring rate settings on this coilover are tested by rally racing teams running the platform competitively, so the baseline you bolt on has already been validated against real stage conditions.

The inverted layout also keeps the moving mass lower and the seal surface protected from grit ingress – both of which matter when the car is being pelted with debris for hours at a time.

Fitment for the Honda CIVIC EF CRX TWIN CAM (Rr EYE) (1989-1991)

This kit is built specifically for the HN11 CRX twin-cam variant with the rear-eye lower mount, covering the 1989 to 1991 production span. The rear-eye reference matters: it distinguishes this fitment from later EG-platform rear geometry, so check your existing lower mount style before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
