XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda ACCORD CF3/4/5 (JAPAN) 1997-2002

The JDM CF-series Accord was never a homologation special, but the long-travel suspension geometry and the relatively soft front strut tops make it a surprisingly willing base for a stage car – provided the damper can cope with what gravel actually does to a chassis. That is the brief the XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built to. It is the most aggressive damper in the XYZ catalogue, developed specifically for rally and rallycross use where the surface is sandstone, snow, silt, or anything else that arrives unannounced under a 2.0 or 2.3-litre Accord at full chat.

This is not a fast-road kit with longer springs. It is an inverted-tube, long-stroke unit with a spring package that XYZ’s own rally team has tested across the actual surfaces it is built for – and the spring rates ship pre-set against that work, not against a dyno chart.

What this coilover does for your 1997-2002 Honda Accord Cf3/4/5 (japan)

The inverted-tube layout puts the larger-diameter body at the top of the assembly, which stiffens the strut against the side loads gravel throws at a front-driven Accord under heavy steering input. The long stroke gives the chassis somewhere to go when you land off a crest or load the outside front through a fourth-gear sweeper, so the car stays planted instead of skipping. Long springs keep the damper working in its travel rather than coil-binding on compression. On a CF-chassis Accord that means the nose stops washing wide on rough entries, the rear stays alive enough to rotate on lift, and the whole car will absorb a bouncy high-speed section without shaking the driver out of the seat.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ designed this damper around one job: rally and rallycross, where surface conditions vary corner to corner. The inverted-tube construction is specified to cope with the lateral loads of loose-surface driving, where a conventional twin-tube strut would flex under the bending moment from a heavily loaded outside wheel. Stroke length is deliberately long, allowing the damper to absorb the vertical impacts of a bouncy gravel road without running out of travel and transferring shock straight into the chassis. The springs are similarly long, paired to the stroke so the spring keeps tension through the full range of motion, and the rates are signed off by XYZ’s rally racing team rather than chosen for a brochure. The whole package is built to bear high G-forces in cornering on a low-grip surface, which is a different load case to circuit work and the reason a tarmac coilover is the wrong tool here.

Fitment for the Honda Accord Cf3/4/5 (japan) (1997-2002)

This kit is built for the JDM CF3, CF4 and CF5 Accord, covering the 1997 through 2002 production span. Confirm your car is the Japanese-market CF-series chassis (not the European CG or North American CD) before ordering, as the strut geometry differs between markets.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
