XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — BMW Z3 6 CYL (Modified Rear Integrated) 1995-2003

The Z3 6-cylinder’s short wheelbase and semi-trailing-arm "Z-axle" rear end were never drawn up with sealed-stage tarmac punishment in mind – push hard over a rough closed road and that rear axle gets busy long before the nose lets go. XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally coilover around that exact problem: broken camber, mid-corner compressions and the kind of surface change a stage throws at a car that a road-going damper was never set up to absorb.

This kit is built for the BMW Z3 6 CYL (Modified Rr Integrated), covering cars from 1995 to 2003 with the model’s integrated rear-mount arrangement, so the damper locates exactly where the factory geometry expects it. It is a coilover aimed at controlling a long straight-six sat ahead of the front axle and a comparatively light rear end the moment the tarmac turns rough.

What this coilover does for your 1995-2003 BMW Z3 6 CYL (Modified Rr Integrated)

On a stage surface that is rarely as smooth as a circuit, the Tarmac Rally set-up is built to soak up the hit from a pothole or a heaved tarmac seam without kicking the body sideways – that is the difference between a car that stays pointed and one that steps wide mid-corner. Suppressing that shock through the body also keeps more of the contact patch loaded, which is where the extra tyre traction actually comes from, not from a wider tyre alone. Because the Z3’s six-cylinder cars already carry more weight over the front axle than the four-pot cars, controlling how that light rear settles under trail-braking and mid-corner load transfer matters more here than on a nose-light car. The result on your Z3 is a chassis that holds its line over broken tarmac instead of skating across it, with the stability to trust the car at the exact point where a standard damper would already be working against you.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover is built specifically for closed-road, sealed-surface stage work rather than circuit lapping or fast-road use. The damper is calibrated to soak up the impact of an uneven road surface – potholes, ridges, and the sudden compressions a rally stage throws up that a track-tuned damper is not valved for. Where a big hit would normally translate straight through to the chassis, this valving is aimed at killing that shock at the damper rather than passing it into the body, which keeps the tyre loaded and gripping through the moment the surface goes bad rather than skipping across it. The stability that comes from controlling that shock is what lets the platform stay settled enough to place the car accurately as the stage surface changes underneath it. The spring rates and valving supplied with this kit come directly out of XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme rather than being adapted down from a circuit-only setup.

Fitment for the BMW Z3 6 CYL (Modified Rr Integrated) (1995-2003)

This coilover is mapped to chassis code BM71-1, covering the Z3 6-cylinder built between 1995 and 2003 in the Modified Rr Integrated configuration, where the rear mount is matched to this specific integration point rather than a generic Z3 rear end. Confirm your car matches this chassis code and rear-mount configuration before ordering, as the standard and modified rear-integrated Z3 variants are not interchangeable.
