XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES E36 4 CYL 1990-1998

The E36 3 Series carries its four-cylinder engines well forward of the axle line, but its multi-link "Z-axle" rear was a genuine step up from the semi-trailing-arm E30 it replaced, and on loose surfaces that geometry rewards a damper that can absorb big inputs without losing composure. The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover is built around that brief – a rally-spec platform for the E36, not a road or circuit tune wearing a different label.

Where a track-focused coilover chases flat cornering on smooth tarmac, this kit is tuned for the opposite problem: keeping the wheel in contact with a surface that is constantly moving underneath it. Longer travel front and rear gives the E36’s suspension somewhere to go when a compression arrives without warning, and the increased oil and nitrogen gas volume is there to survive the stint, not just the first stage.

What this coilover does for your 1990-1998 BMW 3 Series E36 4 CYL

Fit this coilover to a 4-cylinder E36 and the immediate change is how much longer the suspension can work before it runs out of travel. On gravel, snow or rally-cross surfaces, that extra buffer distance keeps the chassis settled through compressions and crests that would have a standard-travel damper crashing into its bump stops. The enlarged oil and nitrogen gas reservoir matters just as much: it holds the shock’s operating temperature down over a long special stage or extended snow session, so the damping you set at the start of a run is still there at the end rather than fading as the oil heats up. Three external adjustment knobs let you retune the front and rear independently as conditions change, from loose gravel to compacted snow, without pulling the dampers off the car. On the E36’s rear multi-link axle in particular, that adjustability is useful for taming the rotation this chassis is known for once the surface underneath stops offering any grip back.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

The Pro Racing Gravel/Snow sits in XYZ Racing’s line-up as the specialist rally and rally-cross damper, distinct from the brand’s road- and circuit-biased coilovers. Both ends run extended travel over the standard Pro Racing spec, giving the suspension more room to absorb the sort of severe, unpredictable inputs a loose surface throws at a car that tarmac never would. Internally, XYZ Racing has increased the volume of both damping oil and nitrogen gas the unit carries, keeping the working temperature of the shock oil in check across a long stage or session rather than letting it climb and the damping fade with it. Adjustment is handled through three external knobs, and because the valving routes oil through a deliberately small passage at each setting, you may hear a faint noise from the damper when the car is working hard over rough ground – that is the design doing its job, not a fault. The outcome is a coilover built for competition on gravel, snow and other loose surfaces, where holding a consistent setting over a long stint matters more than outright stiffness.

Fitment for the BMW 3 Series E36 4 CYL (1990-1998)

This kit is built to the BMW 3 Series E36’s four-cylinder chassis code BM14, covering model years 1990 to 1998. Confirm your car sits within that range and runs one of the E36’s 4-cylinder engines before ordering, as the 6-cylinder E36 uses a different mounting and spring specification.

Spec the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow to your E36’s rally or gravel build and configure yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
