XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — BMW 2 SERIES F44 3/4 CYL (Modified Rear Integrated) 2020-2026

The F44 2 Series Gran Coupe broke with three decades of rear-drive 2-series lineage, built instead on BMW’s UKL front-wheel-drive architecture shared with the Mini hatch. Point that layout at a loose gravel stage and the weaknesses show fast: a nose that dives under trail braking, a rear axle with limited travel, and a chassis never asked to soak up compression hits at speed on broken surfaces.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built for exactly that discipline – a shock developed around the demands of rally and rallycross, where the road surface changes from sand to snow to loose silt inside a single stage. Fitted to this 3 or 4-cylinder F44 with the modified rear integration kit, it swaps the standard shock’s short travel and soft damping curve for a set-up that can take repeated hard landings without bottoming out.

What this coilover does for your 2020-2026 BMW 2 Series F44

Rally gravel stages punish a suspension in ways smooth tarmac never will – compressions, crests and camber changes arrive without warning, and a coilover with short-stroke road-car travel will crash through its bump stops within a few hundred metres. The Gravel Rally’s long stroke and matching long spring give the F44’s rear axle the extra travel needed to stay in contact with the surface through a compression rather than skipping across it. The inverted tube design keeps the working rod protected from the sandstone, snow and silt a gravel stage throws up, rather than exposing it to abrasive grit the way a conventional monotube would. On a front-driven UKL platform that already fights torque steer under power, added rear control matters too: settled rear damping keeps the back axle planted through direction changes instead of stepping out mid-corner. Every spring rate on this shock has been set from data gathered by an actual rally racing team, so the base tune arrives close to right for stage work rather than needing to be discovered on gravel.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Gravel Rally line specifically for rally and rallycross competition, where surface grip and consistency change more violently than in any other motorsport discipline. The inverted tube layout puts the larger tube uppermost, which shields the sliding rod and seal from the sand, snow and loose silt that a gravel stage kicks up, extending the shock’s working life in exactly the conditions it’s built to run in. Stroke length and spring length are both extended well beyond a road-going coilover’s specification, giving the damper room to absorb chassis vibration and repeated high-speed compressions without running out of travel. That extra stroke also lets the shock bear the extreme cornering loads generated when a car is thrown into a gravel corner at speed, rather than transmitting every hit straight into the chassis. XYZ Racing’s own rally team supplies the spring rate data behind every application, so the rates fitted to this F44 come from stage testing rather than a desk calculation.

Fitment for the BMW 2 Series F44 (2020-2026)

This kit is built for the F44-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe (chassis code BM115-1) across the 2020 to 2026 model run, covering the 3 and 4-cylinder petrol and diesel line-up. It uses the modified rear integration kit, so the rear shock mounts to the F44’s factory mounting points without further fabrication.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
