XYZ Racing Street Advanced Coilovers — Audi TT 8N φ50 1998-2006

The 8N TT shares its transverse-engine PQ34 underpinnings with the Mk4 Golf and 8L A3, and it inherited the same trait that forced Audi to fit a factory spoiler and ESP retrofit partway through production: a chassis that gets nervous at speed when the suspension geometry is left soft and worn. A coilover swap on an 8N isn’t cosmetic – it’s the fix for the exact instability the factory spent a mid-life update trying to paper over.

XYZ Racing’s Street Advanced kit is built for owners who drive the car daily and still want it composed on a B-road or the odd track day. It replaces the ageing factory dampers and springs with a coilover that keeps the ride usable at UK speeds while giving you a real say in how the car sits and settles through direction changes.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2006 Audi TT

Lower the 8N on this kit and the first thing you notice is how much less the nose dives under braking and how much flatter it stays mid-corner – both symptoms of the original suspension’s soft, ageing springs. The damping adjustment lets you soften the ride for the motorway commute and firm it up for a spirited drive without swapping parts, which matters on a car whose factory setup was already a compromise between ride comfort and the high-speed stability Audi later had to correct with a rear spoiler. Ride height adjustment also lets you correct the nose-forward weight bias that comes from the TT’s longitudinally-mounted-feel but actually transverse EA113/EA827 four-pot sitting ahead of the front axle line, tightening turn-in response that the standard ride height tends to blunt. For a quattro or FWD 8N running on 17s or 18s, that adjustability is the difference between a car that wallows into a roundabout and one that holds its line.

About the Street Advanced coilover

Street Advanced is XYZ Racing’s highest-volume coilover line, refined over years of production and proven in competition before being tuned back for road use. The headline spec is 720 discrete damping settings, split across compression and rebound, so you’re not choosing between three or four coarse positions but dialling into a genuinely fine window between comfort and control. Construction follows XYZ’s φ50 body sizing on this application, giving the shock more oil volume and a more consistent damping curve over a long British B-road than a narrower-bodied unit manages. It’s pitched deliberately at the driver who wants one set of coilovers to do the school run and a track day without a spring change in between, which is why the adjustment range leans usable rather than extreme. The racing-derived valving is there to be felt in how quickly the damper settles after a compression, not just in a spec sheet number.

Fitment for the Audi TT 8N (1998-2006)

This kit is built for the Audi TT 8N, chassis code AU38, covering the full 1998-2006 production run on the φ50 shock body. It’s engineered around the 8N’s factory mounting points and strut geometry, so no chassis modification is needed to fit either the FWD or quattro variants sold across this generation.
