XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Audi S1 SPORTBACK 8X (Modified Rear Integrated) 2014-2018

The S1’s Haldex-driven, nose-heavy 8X platform was never meant to leave tarmac, which is exactly why converting one for gravel-stage work asks so much of the dampers. On loose surfaces the front end has to soak up compression hits at speed while the rear axle – already carrying a modified, integrated setup on this chassis – stays planted enough to put power down out of a bend. That’s the brief for the XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover.

This is a rally-specific damper, not a repurposed circuit part. Where a track coilover chases a low, stiff ride for tarmac grip, the Gravel Rally kit is built around long-travel, high-frequency abuse: washboard surfaces, sudden compressions, and the kind of repeated impact that would eat a road-biased damper’s seals within a stage or two.

What this coilover does for your 2014-2018 Audi S1 Sportback

On a modified S1 8X running an integrated rear setup, the long stroke and matched long spring give the suspension somewhere to go when a compression hits mid-corner, rather than transmitting it straight into the chassis. That matters on the S1 specifically because the Haldex system is already asking the front axle to do double duty – steering and driving – and a damper that skips or spikes under hard compression costs traction exactly when the diff needs it most. The inverted tube construction is aimed at the conditions gravel actually throws at a damper: sandstone, snow, silt, each loading the shock differently, and each demanding it keeps working rather than fading. Spring rates on this kit are set from rally team data rather than a road-car baseline, so the S1’s nose stays controlled under braking into a stage without the setup becoming harsh over the repeated small hits gravel throws between corners.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing designed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where road conditions are more aggressive than anything a circuit car sees. The inverted tube layout is built to keep working across the surface changes a single stage can throw at it – sandstone one section, snow or silt the next – without the damper losing consistency as conditions shift underneath the car. A long stroke paired with a long spring gives the suspension room to absorb chassis vibration and soak up aggressive hits from high-speed, bouncy surfaces, while still controlling the car under the extreme G-forces generated when turning at speed on loose ground. Spring rate selection isn’t a generic road-car figure scaled up – every rate offered in this range has been run and validated by a rally racing team, so the numbers reflect what actually holds up over a stage rather than a bench estimate.

Fitment for the Audi S1 Sportback (2014-2018)

Built for the Audi S1 Sportback 8X, chassis code AU43-1, covering the 2014 to 2018 production run with a modified, integrated rear setup. Confirm your S1 sits within this year span and rear configuration before ordering, as the integrated-rear variant is treated as a distinct fitment from the standard rear layout.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
