XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Audi R8 4WD 2007-2014

The AU44-generation R8 4WD’s mid-engine quattro layout puts drive to all four corners, but the factory ride height and damper travel were tuned for smooth tarmac, not a rutted gravel stage. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover rebuilds that travel budget from the ground up, giving the chassis somewhere to move when the surface stops being flat.

This is the Gravel Rally spec, not the road or circuit version – it’s built around long-stroke dampers and a taller ride height so the car can absorb repeated compression events without bottoming out. For an R8 4WD headed onto loose stages or a gravel-cross course, that’s the difference between a chassis that skips over ruts and one that gets knocked off line by them.

What this coilover does for your 2007-2014 Audi R8 4WD

Fit the Gravel Rally coilover to a 2007-2014 R8 4WD and the biggest change you’ll feel is composure over broken ground: the inverted-tube damper and extended stroke let each corner follow the terrain independently instead of transmitting every rut straight into the tub. Longer springs work alongside that extra travel, so the chassis can absorb a sharp compression – a washed-out ridge, a sudden dip – without the suspension running out of room and slamming into its bump stops. The quattro system’s all-wheel drive already puts power down well on loose surfaces; matched to a damper actually built for that surface, the R8 4WD keeps its tyres loaded and working instead of skating over the top of vibration. Corner-entry stability improves too – on a mid-engine car, keeping the rear planted through a rough turn-in is what stops the back end stepping out under G-force.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Gravel Rally coilover specifically for rally and rally-cross use, where the stage surface – sandstone, snow, silt, loose gravel – is about as hostile as motorsport road conditions get, which makes the damper arguably the most heavily worked part on the car. The design centres on an inverted-tube layout that copes with that spread of surfaces rather than being optimised for one, paired with a long stroke and long spring so the chassis can soak up vibration from repeated high-speed compressions instead of fighting them. That extra travel is also what lets the unit shrug off the extreme lateral G-force generated mid-corner without losing damping control. XYZ Racing’s own rally team set the spring rates on the car itself, running them through actual stage conditions rather than a bench, so the rates supplied are the ones that held up under race load, not a theoretical calculation.

Fitment for the Audi R8 4WD (2007-2014)

This kit is built for the AU44-chassis Audi R8 4WD produced from 2007 to 2014, covering the quattro all-wheel-drive layout across that production run. Confirm your R8 sits within this year range and retains the factory 4WD drivetrain before ordering, since the Gravel Rally geometry is set around that specific chassis.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
