XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V Φ55 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) (Cancellation Kit for ElectronicDamping) 2012-2020

Sealed-stage tarmac rally punishes a car in a way a smooth circuit never does: crested compressions, mid-corner ruts, the odd square-edged pothole that a recce note didn’t quite capture. On the 8V A3 Sportback’s multi-link rear, that kind of input arrives as vertical shock as much as lateral load, and the last thing you want mid-stage is a rear axle that’s still settling when you turn in for the next apex. The Tarmac Rally coilover is built around that specific failure mode.

This fitment covers the Φ55-bodied quattro variant of the 8V, the one that left the factory with electronic adaptive damping, which is why it comes as a cancellation kit for that system: swap to a fixed-rate manual damper and you need the OEM electronic control cancelled out cleanly, not left running a control loop with nothing to talk to.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V Φ55 (Rr Multi-Link Suspension) (Cancellation Kit for ElectronicDamping)

Where the standard adaptive setup is tuned to smooth out everyday road imperfections, this kit is tuned to keep the tyre in contact with the road when the surface stops being smooth at all. The 55mm body gives the damper more oil volume to work with, which matters when you’re absorbing repeated big-bump impacts stage after stage rather than the odd pothole on a commute. On the 8V’s independent multi-link rear, that translates into a rear end that settles faster after a compression, so the diff and driveshafts aren’t still loading up when you’re back on the throttle. Front to rear, the result is a car that keeps its tyres working rather than skipping across broken tarmac, and stays composed enough mid-corner that you can commit to the line the pace notes call for rather than the line the surface allows.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally range is built specifically to deal with uneven pavement rather than a manicured circuit surface. The damper’s job is to soak up the jolt of a big hit – a broken edge, a crest, a compression – without transmitting that shock straight into the body structure, which is what keeps the tyre loaded and gripping instead of skipping. XYZ Racing has set the internal valving using data from its own Tarmac Rally programme, so the compression and rebound behaviour reflects what actually happens on a closed stage rather than a road-going comfort target. The net effect the brand is chasing is straightforward: predictable body control at speed over a surface that’s never entirely flat, so the driver feels one stable platform rather than a car reacting stage by stage to whatever the road throws at it.

Fitment for the Audi A3 Sportback (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the 8V-generation A3 Sportback, chassis code AU12-2-C, across the 2012-2020 production run, specifically the Φ55 rear multi-link version fitted from the factory with electronic adaptive damping. The included cancellation kit is required on this fitment to remove the OEM electronic damper control cleanly when moving to the fixed-rate Tarmac Rally setup.
