XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V φ50 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) Modified Rear Integrated (CancellationKit for Electronic Damping) 2012-2020

Audi reserved the multi-link rear axle for the more highly strung end of the 8V Sportback range, and that’s the axle this kit is built around. Where the torsion-beam cars are limited to what a semi-independent rear can do under load, the multi-link layout gives each rear corner its own camber and toe response – which is exactly the geometry a Racing Spec coilover is designed to exploit.

This is XYZ Racing’s track-focused Φ50 monotube setup for the Audi A3 Sportback, aimed at drivers doing serious lapping and time-attack work rather than the odd trackday. Because this fitment carries the electronic-damping cancellation kit, it’s built specifically for cars that left the factory with adaptive dampers, so the swap to manual, mechanically-adjustable dampers doesn’t leave the ECU hunting for a signal it no longer has.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3 SPORTBACK

Fitted to the multi-link rear, this kit lets you set rear camber and toe independently of ride height, so lowering the car for a lower centre of gravity doesn’t drag the rear geometry out of its working window the way it would on a beam-axle car. Compression and rebound are adjustable through the damper body, so you can firm up the front to sharpen turn-in on a nose-heavy MQB-based Sportback, then back the rear off to keep the axle settled through kerbs and mid-corner bumps. The Φ50 monotube piston runs in a larger-bore housing than a standard twin-tube unit, which matters most when the damper is working hard for consecutive laps rather than a single spirited drive. Because the electronic-damping loom is cancelled at the plug rather than left to fault, the car runs clean without warning lights nagging you mid-session.

About the Racing Spec coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Racing Spec line directly out of circuit competition, with damping curves drawn from programmes including WTCC rather than derived on a rig and assumed to translate. That background shows in how the damper is set up out of the box: firm, direct, and tuned for a car that’s going to be driven at the limit repeatedly rather than cruised. For cars running more aggressive upgrades – bigger brakes, wider rubber, added aero, or anything else that changes the loads the suspension sees – XYZ Racing will also build a bespoke damper to spec, based on details of the car’s other modifications and the circuit it’s run on. That custom-build route exists because a genuinely quick car often outgrows an off-the-shelf valving curve, and the Racing Spec range is built to be the starting point for that conversation, not the ceiling.

Fitment for the Audi A3 Sportback (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the Audi A3 Sportback 8V fitted with the multi-link rear suspension, covering the 2012 to 2020 model years, and specifically for the variant originally equipped with electronic damping – the included cancellation kit resolves that at the wiring loom so the standard dampers can be removed without triggering a fault. Confirm your A3 Sportback has the multi-link rear (not the torsion-beam rear fitted to lower-output variants) before ordering, as the two axles are not interchangeable.
