Caliper render for this kit:

Forty-year-old brake hardware is the one area where the AE86 has not aged well. Toyota engineered the Levin and Trueno’s front brake specification for a composed road car, not for the aggressive trail-braking technique that exploits the chassis’s genuine rear-wheel-drive balance. Corner entry on an AE86 pivots on front-axle confidence: when the front bites cleanly and progressively you can load the rear through the steering rather than managing a vague, spongy pedal. The XYZ Racing Front Big Brake Kit resolves that factory limitation for the 1983-1987 car.
The kit fits as a pair of front calipers and a pair of two-piece front discs. Three pad compounds span the intended range, and the included caliper colours of Red, Yellow, Gold, Black and Anodized Black, or any Pantone as a Custom Color, give the choice of standing out in a prepared show car or sitting quietly behind a clean, understated Levin build.
What this brake kit does for your 1983-1987 Toyota AE86
On a car that weighs around 940 kg and invites you to carry speed deep into corners, front braking performance determines how late you can commit to a turn-in point. The larger two-piece floating discs sharpen initial bite and extend the thermal window before fade starts softening the pedal, and the difference is most noticeable on a track day’s second session, or on a long touge descent where repeated braking accumulates heat. The hollow-vane casting drives air through the disc face to manage that heat, and the two-piece construction trims rotating and unsprung mass ahead of the suspension, so the front axle responds faster to steering changes.
Three pad compounds let you set the character. Street is the quiet, low-dust default for light road duties; Sport adds bite and heat range for mixed fast-road and occasional track work; Racing is the full circuit compound for temperatures that build across multiple runs. With the Racing pad fitted the AE86’s rotation instincts become easier to exploit deliberately, because the front axle responds to trail-brake inputs consistently rather than fading at the wrong moment. Discs come drilled or slotted at the same price, and braided lines firm up the pedal.
About the Front Big Brake Kit
The caliper is a hollow-body forged unit as standard, light against its strength, with a Hollow Racing upgrade for sustained circuit and hillclimb use that removes the dust cover and adds a 1000C rating and a two-year warranty. On a car as light as the AE86 the dynamic effect of reduced rotating and unsprung mass through the two-piece floating disc is disproportionately noticeable, sharpening turn-in feel where heavier alternatives blunt it.
All three pad compounds share the same caliper geometry, covering the spectrum from occasional spirited road driving through to sustained circuit use. Beyond the included paints, finish choices extend to premium polished-forged Titanium, Polished Gold and Polished Silver, and a candy range of Candy Teal, Candy Blue, Candy Red and Candy Orange. Centre bells can be specified two-tone in five anodized colours or in titanium, all chosen when you order, from a finish that reads as a track-focused statement to a discreet one that suits a car where the driving does the talking.
Fitment for the Toyota AE86 (1983-1987)
This front brake kit is confirmed for the Toyota AE86 in both Levin and Trueno body forms, covering the complete 1983-1987 production run and fitting the front axle as a left-and-right pair. If you are building a car for sustained circuit or hillclimb use, a matched rear upgrade keeps braking balance consistent front and rear and avoids over-reliance on front-axle bias under heavy deceleration.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 286–380mm (front). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
