Caliper render for this kit:

Brake balance on the BE5 Legacy B4 lives or dies at the back axle. Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel-drive layout keeps all four corners loaded under braking, so when the rear discs on a non-Brembo car start to fade, the whole stopping character shifts: bias creeps forward, pedal travel grows, and the confidence you had braking into a downhill bend quietly evaporates. This rear kit exists to stop that happening.
The XYZ Racing Hollow Rear Brake Kit for the Subaru Legacy-B4 (1998-2003) is built for the factory-Brembo-delete cars and brings the rear axle up to a 290mm two-piece floating disc, giving the back of the car the thermal headroom the standard setup never had. Supplied as a matched pair of left and right corners, it is aimed at owners working their turbo Legacy hard on the road or the occasional track day, where repeated heavy stops are exactly where the OE rear brakes give up first.
What this brake kit does for your 1998-2003 Subaru Legacy-B4 (without OE Brembo)
Fit the kit and the first thing you feel is a firmer, more progressive rear bite under trail-braking: the EJ-powered B4 settles into the corner rather than nosing into understeer as the front brakes take over the work. The 290mm rear discs carry far more heat than the standard rotors, so on a run of hard stops the pedal stays where you left it instead of going long. The two-piece floating disc lets the friction ring expand against an alloy bell, trimming rotating and unsprung mass at the back, which the BE5’s relatively soft standard setup answers with slightly sharper turn-in. Pick the Racing pad compound for circuit use, the Sport compound for fast-road bite without cold-morning squeal, or the Street compound for an OE-like daily feel. Calipers are painted Red, Yellow, Gold, Black or Anodized Black at no extra cost, with a Custom Color in any Pantone available, so the upgrade reads as deliberate behind the wheels rather than aftermarket-generic.
About the Hollow rear brake kit
The Hollow rear brake kit pairs a two-piece floating disc, where the friction ring floats against an alloy bell to manage heat and cut thermal distortion without sacrificing the swept area doing the actual braking, with a hollow-cast caliper as standard. At the rear of the Legacy-B4 that means a 290mm disc paired with XYZ Racing’s caliper and bracket package, sized to give the pads a longer, more stable contact patch than the standard rear setup. The kit is built as a balance partner to a front upgrade rather than a standalone fix: it raises rear thermal capacity so a car braking hard from speed does not throw all its retardation onto the front axle. Three pad compounds, Street, Sport and Racing, match the kit to how the car is actually used, from commuting to track sessions, with an optional Hollow Racing caliper rated to 1000C and a two-year warranty for dedicated track work. Disc faces are drilled or slotted at the same price, the centre bell upgrades to a five-colour anodized two-tone or titanium, and the painted caliper colour, a Custom Pantone or a premium polished or candy finish are all chosen at checkout.
Fitment for the Subaru Legacy-B4 (1998-2003)
This kit is specified for the 1998-2003 Subaru Legacy-B4 in the non-Brembo configuration, the cars that left the factory without the optional Brembo package, and so run the smaller standard rear setup this kit replaces. It is a rear-axle kit built around a 290mm disc (Φ290 / Φ171 as listed). Confirm your car is a non-Brembo example before ordering, as the Brembo-equipped B4 uses different hardware.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 330–356mm (rear). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
