Caliper render for this kit:

The Z3’s rear axle has always been its character and its catch. BMW carried over a semi-trailing arm setup from the older E30 rather than adopting the E36’s multilink, which is what gives the car its quick, lift-throttle rotation and its reputation for catching owners out mid-corner. The XYZ Racing Hollow Rear Brake Kit for the BMW Z3 targets the back end specifically, replacing the modest factory rear discs and calipers with a larger, more thermally stable setup as a matched left-and-right pair.
This is a rear-axle upgrade aimed at restoring brake balance on a short-wheelbase roadster that asks a lot of its tail. With three pad compounds spanning quiet road manners through to a full Racing compound, it suits everything from a 1.9 four-pot used on the road to a six-cylinder Z3 seeing regular track time.
What this brake kit does for your 1996-2002 BMW Z3
On the road you will feel the rear settle under braking, with less of the nervous fidget the Z3 can show once the standard rear brakes start to heat-soak. Larger two-piece rotors with hollow vanes carry and shed heat better, so repeat stops from speed stay consistent rather than going long and soft, and the lighter discs trim rotating and unsprung mass at the back. Because the kit lets you match rear pad compound to use, the Street compound keeps daily manners quiet and dust-light, the Sport compound steps up bite for fast road and the odd track day, and the Racing compound holds bite deep into a session. Sizing the rear properly against the front also stops the car stepping out under hard, trail-braked entries, which is exactly the scenario a semi-trailing arm Z3 is sensitive to. Painted caliper finishes, from Red and Gold through to Anodized Black, let the hardware suit the car rather than shout over it.
About the Hollow Rear Brake Kit
The Hollow Rear Brake Kit is XYZ Racing’s rear-axle big brake package, named for its hollow-vane rotor design that trims rotating and unsprung mass at the back of the car. It is supplied as a complete rear setup: larger two-piece floating discs, calipers and pads sized to the Z3’s rear hubs, with the floating bell letting the braking ring expand under heat without warping. Pad choice runs across three compounds: Street for quiet, low-dust road feel, Sport for harder road and occasional track use, and Racing for sustained high-temperature work, so one set of hardware covers a road car or a weekend track tool. The caliper body is hollow-cast as standard, with a Hollow Racing upgrade available for serious track use that removes the dust cover, is rated to 1000C and carries a two-year warranty. Painted calipers are finished in Red, Yellow, Gold, Black or Anodized Black at no extra cost, with premium polished-forged and candy finishes available, discs drilled or slotted at the same price, braided lines included, and a centre-bell upgrade in two-tone anodized colours or titanium. The emphasis is thermal capacity and consistent rear bite rather than raw initial sharpness, which is what a tail-happy roadster genuinely wants from its back axle.
Fitment for the BMW Z3 (1996-2002)
This kit is built for the rear axle of the BMW Z3 across the full 1996 to 2002 production run, covering the four-cylinder and six-cylinder roadster and coupe variants of the chassis, as a left-and-right pair. It is a rear-position fitment only. Confirm your exact engine and brake variant against the options above before ordering, as rear hub and disc specifications can differ across the range.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 330–356mm (rear). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
