XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK7 φ55 (Rear Twist-Beam Suspension) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2012-2020

The Mk7 Golf’s twist-beam rear axle asks a different question of a rally coilover than an independent setup would – both rear corners move together, so how that beam is controlled dictates how the car settles over a rutted stage rather than how each wheel reacts alone. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover is built around that reality, giving the Mk7 a damper that keeps the rear composed when the surface breaks up mid-corner.

This is a stage-driving spec, not a road-comfort one. It’s aimed at Golf owners running sealed-stage tarmac rally events who need the car to stay planted over compressions and crests without the rear axle skipping sideways when a kerb or camber change catches it unevenly.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Volkswagen GOLF

Fitted to a 2012-2020 Golf Mk7 with the twist-beam rear (this includes the electronic-damping cancellation kit for cars specified with adaptive dampers from the factory), the coilover’s core job is absorbing hits without the shock transmitting straight through to the body. Big compressions – a jump, a broken tarmac edge, a hidden dip mid-stage – get soaked up at the damper instead of unsettling the chassis, which keeps the tyre’s contact patch loaded and the car pointing where you left it. Because the twist-beam ties both rear wheels together, damping control here does double duty: it’s managing ride and keeping the beam from telegraphing one wheel’s hit into the other’s grip. The result on a stage is a Golf that holds its line through braking into a corner and stays flat enough on exit to get the power down without the rear stepping out unexpectedly.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

This damper is built specifically around tarmac rally use, where the surface is sealed but far from smooth – mid-corner bumps, compressions, and sharp elevation changes arrive at speed with no room to back off. The valving is set up to absorb those hits directly, controlling body movement so the impact doesn’t unsettle the car through the rest of the corner. That control also feeds tyre traction: a chassis that isn’t pitching or wallowing over a bump keeps more rubber pressed into the road exactly when you need it. XYZ Racing state the settings come directly from their own tarmac rally racing programme, tuned for the vehicle stability a crew needs to trust the car flat-out on a stage rather than second-guessing it. This cancellation-kit variant additionally removes the factory electronic damper control module from the equation, so the fixed valving does the work without fighting an adaptive system that was never built for stage-speed inputs.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the Golf Mk7 with the φ55 rear twist-beam suspension, chassis code VO20-7-C, covering the 2012-2020 model years. It includes the cancellation kit required on cars originally fitted with electronic damping control, so the factory adaptive module isn’t left conflicting with the fixed-rate dampers. Confirm your Mk7 has the twist-beam rear (not multi-link) and the electronic damping option before ordering.
