XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK7 Φ55 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2012-2020

The MK7 Golf’s rear multi-link axle is one of the better setups VW ever bolted to a hatchback, but on the Φ55 damper-body cars it was tuned from the factory around electronic adaptive damping, not a fixed-rate track setup. Fit a genuinely track-focused coilover here and you first have to solve that electronics problem before you can even talk suspension geometry.

That is what this Racing Spec kit is built to do. It pairs a circuit-honed damper with the cancellation hardware needed to delete the electronic damping control cleanly, so the MK7’s rear end runs on mechanical valving alone – the way a serious time-attack or track-day car needs it to.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Volkswagen GOLF

With the electronic damping control cancelled out, the Φ55 rear multi-link responds only to the damper’s own valving – no ECU interference, no default-mode softening mid-corner. On a front-drive chassis like the MK7, that consistency matters most under trail-braking and off-throttle rotation, where the rear axle needs to load predictably rather than second-guess itself. Ride height drops to a proper track stance, sharpening turn-in and cutting the roll that eats into front tyre contact on a hard-charging hatchback. The damper’s adjustment range lets you set compression and rebound to match tyre compound and track surface rather than living with VW’s road-biased factory curve. For a Golf doing repeat sessions rather than the odd trackday, that’s the difference between a car that stays consistent lap five and one that doesn’t.

About the Racing Spec coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Racing Spec damper specifically for circuit racing, with valving pulled directly from touring car programmes including WTCC entries rather than derived from a road-going base spec. For cars carrying heavier factory-style modifications – aero, weight reduction, forced-induction changes typical of A-class racing builds – XYZ Racing also offers a bespoke damper service: supply details of your car’s upgrades and the circuits you run, and they’ll build shock absorbers tuned specifically to that combination. On the MK7 Golf, this cancellation-kit variant extends that same Racing Spec valving to the Φ55 rear axle by removing the factory electronic damping control from the equation, so the mechanical setup does the work the ECU used to handle.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 fitted with the Φ55 rear multi-link suspension and factory electronic damping control (chassis reference VO20-2-C), covering the 2012 to 2020 production run. The cancellation kit is required specifically because these cars ship with adaptive dampers as standard – check your rear suspension spec against this before ordering, as non-electronic MK7 variants use a different kit.
