XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK7 Φ55 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2012-2020

The Mk7 Golf’s multi-link rear axle only appears on the quicker end of the range, and this fitment is built specifically around it: a Φ55 strut spec paired with a cancellation kit that lets you delete the factory electronic damping control and run a fixed mechanical damper in its place. That’s a meaningful swap, not a bolt-on afterthought – it removes the adaptive-damper software layer and replaces it with a coilover you set by hand.

For a car that splits its time between the school run and the odd track day, that trade makes sense. The Top Sport kit is XYZ Racing’s setup for exactly that use case: firm enough to hold the Golf’s nose down under trail-braking, still liveable on a Tuesday commute.

What this coilover kit does for your 2012-2020 Volkswagen GOLF MK7

Fitted to a 2012-2020 GOLF MK7 on the multi-link rear axle, the kit’s raised damping rate keeps the chassis flatter through direction changes than the factory adaptive dampers ever allowed on their firmest setting, because you’re no longer relying on a control unit’s compromise curve. Stepping the spring rate up from the street baseline cuts the body roll that lets the front axle wash wide mid-corner, so the car turns in and holds its line instead of pushing. Height is adjustable independently of that spring rate, which means you can drop the ride for a lower centre of gravity without also stiffening the ride beyond what the road surface can take. On broken tarmac the shock body still has enough travel to absorb the hit rather than skipping the wheel across it, so the tyre keeps its contact patch loaded and its grip usable.

About the Top Sport coilover

XYZ Racing built the Top Sport around a straightforward premise: take the damping rate up by roughly 30 to 50 percent over a street-oriented setup, or add around 2kg/mm to the spring rate, and the coilover absorbs road imperfections without letting the body pitch and wallow over them. That extra control matters most over sharp inputs – a pothole edge, a kerb strike, a mid-corner bump – where an underdamped setup lets the chassis bounce and momentarily unload the tyre. Keeping the shock body settled through those moments is what keeps the contact patch working and the car predictable. The valving and spring rates here come out of XYZ Racing’s own track day testing rather than a generic fast-road tune, and the kit is pitched at drivers who want a car that’s genuinely composed when pushed hard, not just firmer in a straight line. It’s built for track day use and for driving with intent on the road in between.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 (2012-2020)

This kit is specced to chassis code VO20-2-C: the Golf Mk7 built between 2012 and 2020 with the Φ55 multi-link rear suspension. It includes the cancellation kit required to disable the factory electronic damping control on cars fitted with that system from the factory, so the coilover’s damping is set mechanically rather than through the OEM module.
