XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Volkswagen GOLF MK7 Φ55 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) 2012-2020

The MK7 Golf’s multi-link rear axle was already the most track-capable rear end VW had put under a hatchback, but factory dampers still soften the platform for daily comfort. Racing Spec coilovers strip that compromise out, giving the chassis the control it needs when you’re actually pushing it on a circuit rather than commuting on it.

This is a purpose-built track damper, not a fast-road kit wearing a race badge. XYZ Racing built the Racing Spec range specifically around what a MK7 running serious lap times needs from its suspension: predictable weight transfer through the multi-link geometry and a platform that stays flat enough to trust at the limit.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Volkswagen GOLF MK7 Φ55 (rr Multi-link Suspension)

Installed on a 2012-2020 GOLF MK7 with the Φ55 rear multi-link setup, the Racing Spec kit tightens body control through direction changes and under trail-braking, where the standard dampers let the rear end move more than a time-attack car wants. The multi-link rear responds well to a stiffer, better-damped setup because the extra links are already doing the geometry work – the damper just needs to keep pace with it instead of getting overwhelmed. Ride height drops with the coilover’s threaded body, lowering the centre of gravity and sharpening turn-in without disturbing the multi-link’s camber curve the way a cheap spring-only drop would. For a car that’s going to see repeat sessions rather than the odd trackday, having a damper actually tuned for that duty cycle rather than adapted from a road kit matters more than any single spec number.

About the Racing Spec coilover

XYZ Racing developed the Racing Spec damper specifically for circuit racing, with settings drawn directly from the brand’s participation in touring car competition including WTCC. That racing-programme input is the point of the range: valving and rebound characteristics are set by what actually works turning fast laps, not by what feels comfortable on a b-road. For cars carrying heavier factory-style modifications – bigger brakes, aero, wider tyres – XYZ Racing also offers custom-valved dampers built around the specific upgrades fitted and the circuit the car will run, effectively treating it the same way they’d spec a shock for an A-class racing car. That bespoke option exists precisely because a genuinely modified track car outgrows an off-the-shelf valving curve, and XYZ Racing would rather build to the car than sell a compromise.

Fitment for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 Φ55 (rr Multi-link Suspension) (2012-2020)

This kit is specified for the Volkswagen GOLF MK7 with the Φ55 rear multi-link suspension arrangement, chassis code VO20-2, covering model years 2012 to 2020. Confirm your Golf uses this multi-link rear configuration before ordering, as the Φ55 designation identifies a specific rear damper mounting rather than the full MK7 range generically.
