XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Nissan TEANA J31 4 CYL (Modified Rear Integrated) 2003-2008

The Teana J31’s long wheelbase and nose-heavy four-cylinder layout are built for motorway comfort, not for being thrown sideways down a closed tarmac stage – which is exactly the brief for this Tarmac Rally coilover kit. XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally line to control a heavy FF platform over broken surfaces at speed, keeping the nose planted under braking into a hairpin and the rear axle settled through transitions where a stock J31 would pitch and wallow.

For the 4 CYL Teana with the modified rear integration, that means a damper tuned to load the front tyres hard on turn-in without losing rear stability over crests and compressions mid-stage – the two failure points that catch big FF saloons out on sealed rally roads.

What this coilover does for your 2003-2008 Nissan Teana J31

Fit these dampers to your J31 and the biggest change is composure over the mid-corner bumps and crests a rally stage throws at a car this size. The Teana’s nose-heavy four-cylinder weight bias means the front axle does most of the work under trail-braking into a stage junction; a coilover valved specifically for that load transfer keeps the front tyres gripping instead of skating over a surface change. At the rear, the modified integration built for the J31’s suspension layout lets the damper settle the axle through direction changes rather than letting the long wheelbase pitch and float. Ride height adjusts independently front and rear, so you can trim the stance to suit tyre choice and stage conditions rather than living with one compromise setting. The result on gravel-crossed tarmac and mixed-grip stages is a car that changes direction predictably instead of understeering wide or stepping the rear out unannounced.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally line is XYZ Racing’s damper tune for closed tarmac stages, where the road surface is rarely as smooth as a circuit and the car needs to shrug off camber changes, patched sections and unexpected bumps without losing its composure. The valving is calibrated to soak up a hard hit – a pothole, a ridge, a badly repaired section – without the body kicking back and unsettling the chassis mid-corner, which keeps the contact patch loaded and the tyre doing its job instead of skipping across the surface. That control is what XYZ describes as the platform staying stable enough to deliver genuinely predictable handling, stage after stage, rather than a car that feels different every time the surface changes underneath it. The damping curve and spring rates in this kit are carried over from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme, the settings the team runs on its own cars, rather than a generic fast-road tune dialled back for rally use.

Fitment for the Nissan Teana J31 (2003-2008)

This kit is mapped to the Nissan Teana J31, chassis code NI49, across the 2003 to 2008 model years, specified for the 4-cylinder variant with the modified rear integration required for this generation’s rear suspension. Confirm your Teana matches the 4 CYL, NI49 spec before ordering, as the rear mounting differs from other J31 driveline variants.
