XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Mercedes-Benz A CLASS W177 φ53 (Rear Twist- beam Suspension) 2018-2026

The W177 A-Class fitted with this drivetrain spec runs a torsion-beam rear axle rather than the independent multi-link found on 4Matic cars, so the rear end moves as one semi-rigid unit whenever a stage throws camber change or a mid-corner ridge at it. XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover is built around that reality – it’s tuned to manage axle movement over broken surfaces rather than trying to fight an independent geometry that isn’t there on this car.

This kit replaces the factory strut and twist-beam damping on both axles of the A Class W177 with a rally-spec coilover developed for closed tarmac stages – transitions, crests, patched sections and the kind of surface that never stays flat for two corners running. It’s built for stage pace over repeated abuse, not for fast-road commuting or circuit lapping.

What this coilover does for your 2018-2026 Mercedes Benz A Class W177

Over rough or patched tarmac, a twist-beam rear axle transmits every ridge straight through to the body unless the damper absorbs it first. This coilover’s valving is set to catch that impact before it unsettles the rear, keeping the tyre’s contact patch loaded through compressions instead of letting the axle skip sideways. On corner entry that means less axle tramp under trail-braking; mid-corner it keeps the inside rear tyre working through camber changes rather than hopping clear of the road. The front end benefits in the same way – absorbing the big hits, a heavy crest, a sudden compression, cuts the shock transmitted into the chassis, so the front tyres keep tracking the line you’ve chosen instead of skating off it. The net result on the W177 is a car that holds composure through a full stage of repeated hits, where the factory setup would progressively wallow and lose front bite as the surface roughens.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally line specifically for sealed-stage work, where the surface is asphalt but rarely smooth – patched repairs, crests and the odd pothole are part of the stage, not an exception to it. The damper absorbs the impact of uneven pavement without passing it straight into the shell, and soaks up the bigger hits, a heavy kerb strike or a compression over a blind crest, without kicking the body off line. That control keeps the tyre loaded and the contact patch working, which is where traction is actually won or lost on a rally stage rather than in a straight line. The result is a car that stays settled and predictable through repeated stage abuse instead of getting progressively looser as the tarmac deteriorates. XYZ set the base valving from its own tarmac rally programme, so the starting point on this kit reflects what the team has actually run on stage rather than a road tune carried over from a track product.

Fitment for the Mercedes Benz A Class W177 (2018-2026)

This kit is built for the Mercedes Benz A Class W177, chassis code ME53, across the 2018-2026 production run – specifically the torsion-beam rear axle variant rather than the independent multi-link fitted to 4Matic cars. Front and rear dampers are matched to this axle configuration, so confirm your A-Class runs the twist-beam rear before ordering.
