XYZ Racing Pro Racing Gravel/Snow Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES E46 6 CYL 4WD (Modified Rear Integrated) 1998-2005

The E46’s factory rear subframe geometry was never built with a stroke this long in mind, which is exactly why the Rr Integrated conversion exists on this application. Extended front and rear travel gives the 4WD 3 Series room to move on broken, unsealed surfaces without the suspension slamming into its bump stops the way a road-biased coilover would on the same stage.

For gravel and snow work, that extra buffer distance is the difference between a car that stays planted through a compression and one that skips sideways. On a chassis carrying the weight and driveline layout of the 4WD E46, controlling that vertical movement without overheating the dampers matters more than outright stiffness.

What this coilover brings to your 1998-2005 Bmw 3 Series

Longer-travel damping keeps the 3 Series’ wheels tracking the ground through rally-style compressions instead of ballooning out and losing contact patch mid-corner. The increased suspension oil and nitrogen gas volume gives the shocks a larger thermal buffer, so on a long stage the dampers keep working consistently instead of fading as oil temperature climbs – a real issue on any 4WD platform hauling this much unsprung mass over rough ground. The 3-way adjustment lets you retune compression and rebound between a snow-covered forest stage and a dry gravel one without swapping hardware. Expect firm, controlled body movement over crests and through rutted surfaces, with the rear end staying settled under the kind of load transfer the E46’s 4WD layout puts through the subframe on loose surfaces.

About the Pro Racing Gravel/Snow coilover

XYZ Racing built this unit specifically around rally and rallycross use rather than adapting a circuit-spec damper for rough roads. The extended stroke front and rear is the headline change, giving the car a bigger cushion before it runs out of suspension travel over jumps and compressions. Internally, the larger reservoir of suspension oil and nitrogen gas is there to stop shock oil temperature spiking on long, hard stages – a common failure point when a road-spec damper is pushed into rally use. The 3 adjustment knobs use a small-oil-hole metering design; over big hits you may hear a faint noise as oil passes through that restricted passage, which is a normal characteristic of this valving rather than a fault. It’s built with circuit-adjacent rough-road use in mind, so bump noise on track kerbs or broken tarmac isn’t a concern either.

Fitment for the Bmw 3 SERIES E46 (1998-2005)

Built for the E46-chassis 3 Series, 6-cylinder, 4WD variant with the Rr Integrated rear modification, covering the 1998 to 2005 production run. Confirm your car matches the 4WD driveline and the Rr Integrated rear setup before ordering, as this spec is specific to that configuration.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. With longer travel for both front and rear, it increases bigger buffer distance to keep the car stable. The most advantages of this product is to extend the amount of suspension oil and nitrogen gas which can increase the stability of the shocks and prevent the shock oil temperature too high from being exhausted after long-term use.

Because its 3 adjustment knobs with small oil hole design, when driving through big bumps, the coilover oil will go through small passage which might cause some small noise. This is normal situation. This product is made for circuit tracks and there will be no concern for bumps on the tracks.
