XYZ Racing Drift Spec Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES E30 6 CYL OE φ45 (Front Welding OE Rear Separated) 1982-1992

The E30’s short wheelbase, six-cylinder nose weight and semi-trailing-arm rear were never really trying to stay planted – lift the throttle mid-corner and the back end already wants to come round. That’s precisely why the platform has stayed a drift staple for three decades, and it’s what XYZ Racing’s Drift Spec coilover is built to work with rather than fight. Ride height and damping are set up to hold a controlled slide angle, not to chase the flattest possible line through a bend.

This isn’t a track or fast-road kit relabelled for drift buyers. It’s tuned for holding the car sideways under power, giving the front end enough bite to catch a slide and the rear enough consistency that the car doesn’t snap back on you mid-transition. On the 1982-1992 E30 with the six-cylinder OE Φ45 front strut and separated rear shock-and-spring arrangement, that means hardware built to the factory mounting geometry rather than adapted around it.

What this coilover does for your 1982-1992 Bmw 3 Series E30

Lowering the ride height on the front Φ45 struts and the separated rear shocks brings the E30’s roll centre and centre of gravity down together, so the transition into a slide happens on your terms rather than as a sudden weight-transfer surprise. Setting bump stroke correctly at the rear keeps the semi-trailing arm working through its intended range instead of topping or bottoming out mid-drift, which is where E30s traditionally lose composure. The result is a car that breaks traction predictably, holds an angle without constant correction, and lets you feed power back in without the rear stepping out further than intended. Front-to-rear balance stays adjustable independently, since the front strut and rear shock are handled as separate assemblies rather than a shared unit.

About the Drift Spec coilover

XYZ Racing built this range specifically around drift competition rather than general performance driving. The construction is aimed at keeping the car’s body stable through high-speed direction changes, so the driver can hold a consistent angle instead of fighting body roll on top of the slide itself. Ride height reduction is paired with a bump stroke calibrated for drift loads, which is where a lot of generic lowering kits fall down – too little travel and the rear crashes into its bump stops the moment power goes down. Here, the front Φ45 OE-diameter strut housing and the separated rear shock-and-spring layout are matched to the E30’s original mounting points, so the geometry stays true to the chassis instead of introducing bind or unwanted camber change once the car is set low.

Fitment for the Bmw 3 Series E30 (1982-1992)

This kit is built for the six-cylinder E30, chassis code BM07-1, across the full 1982-1992 production run. It’s specified for the OE Φ45 front strut diameter and the separated rear shock-and-spring set-up rather than a combined rear coilover, so confirm your car uses this front-and-rear configuration before ordering.

This suspension is designed for Drift race especially. With its special design, it helps the racers stabilize the vehicle body while in high speed turning in order to make a perfect angle. It can also enhance drifting performance. After lowing the ride height with proper bump stroke, you will realize how we made the drift controlling to the excellent condition.

  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
