XYZ Racing Drag Racing Coilovers — BMW 3 SERIES E30 6 CYL OE φ45 (Front Welding OE Rear Separated) 1982-1992

The E30’s straight-six hangs well back in the bay, but on a RWD chassis that near-neutral static balance is the wrong shape for a 0-400m pass – the driven axle needs load transferring onto it the instant the clutch drops, not spread evenly across both ends the way it sits at rest. XYZ Racing’s Drag Racing coilover kit for the 3 Series E30 6-cylinder is built specifically around that transfer, not around cornering load.

Where a circuit-biased coilover resists weight transfer to keep the car flat, this kit is tuned to let it happen on command. Front and rear settings are set independently so the nose can rise and the rear can squat under launch, loading the rear tyres exactly when they need the extra contact patch to hook up.

What this coilover does for your 1982-1992 Bmw 3 Series E30

Set up correctly, the front end unloads under launch rather than fighting it, so the rear tyres get the compression they need to bite instead of spinning through the first fifty feet. That reduces the dead time between wheel spin and forward drive that costs a 1982-1992 E30 tenths at the top end of a run. Independent front and rear adjustment means the split can be tuned specifically for the car’s weight and power combination rather than left as a compromise setting shared with a road or track spec. Because the geometry is set up to encourage transfer rather than resist it, the car settles into the launch more consistently run to run, which matters more on a drag strip than outright cornering grip ever will.

About the Drag Racing coilover

This is a coilover built for 0-400m drag racing across FWD, RWD and 4WD applications, not adapted from a road or track kit. The valving and spring settings are calculated to let the car’s weight shift toward the driven wheels the instant power goes down, forcing the transmission-side tyres into a harder compression against the tarmac. That extra compression is what shortens the idle time between wheel spin and clean drive, and it’s also what keeps the car settled at speed once traction is found rather than letting the chassis wallow through the change of weight. On the E30 specifically, the kit uses an OE φ45 front strut mounting arrangement that requires welding at installation, paired with a separated rear setup rather than a combined strut assembly – a distinction worth knowing before you book a fitting slot.

Fitment for the BMW 3 Series E30 (1982-1992)

Built for the 6-cylinder E30, chassis code BM07-1, covering the full 1982 to 1992 production run. The front end uses an OE φ45 strut mount that is welded in during fitting, while the rear is a separated design rather than an integrated strut – confirm this matches your car’s current front strut configuration before ordering.

Spec the front and rear settings for your car’s power and weight, then build yours below.

The coilovers are specially designed for 0~400 drag racing such as FWD, RWD or 4WD models. The setting allows vehicle to change the front and rear weight according to the transmission wheel in instant driving, and force the transmission tire having greater compression, which can reduce the idle time of wheel and improve the stability of the vehicle under high speed.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
