XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — BMW 1 SERIES F21 4/6 CYL (excl. M-Technik. xDrive & EDC) 2011-2026

The F21-generation 1 Series without xDrive, M Sport suspension or EDC is the version rally builders tend to reach for first: rear-wheel drive, standard mechanical dampers rather than electronically adaptive ones, and a nose light enough to rotate into a hairpin instead of pushing wide. That same layout is exactly why the factory setup runs out of ideas the moment a stage surface turns rough – soft spring rates and road-biased valving were never asked to deal with compressions, crests and mid-corner ruts thrown at them repeatedly.

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover kit is built around that specific problem. It’s the sealed-stage-tarmac spec in the range, distinct from the road-oriented kits also in this catalogue, and it goes onto the 1 Series F21 4/6 CYL (2011-2026) as a full damper and spring replacement rather than a bolt-on stiffening kit.

What this coilover kit does for your 2011-2026 Bmw 1 Series

Fitted to the F21, the kit’s job is to keep both axles loaded against the road even once that road stops being flat. Where the standard damper lets a wheel skip off a bump and lose contact for a fraction of a second, this valving is set up to absorb that jolt and put the tyre straight back down, which is where the traction on loose or broken tarmac actually comes from. The rear end – already prone to stepping out on a lift-off in a rear-wheel-drive 1 Series once you’re pushing through a fast section – settles rather than skips over consecutive bumps, so the back of the car stays predictable through combinations instead of needing a correction after every crest. Ride height and preload are adjustable at each corner, so the car can be set up to the spring rate and geometry a stage build needs rather than living with whatever compromise the factory landed on for a road car.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally is XYZ Racing’s damper for sealed-stage work – built to soak up the impact of an uneven road surface rather than pass it straight into the chassis. The valving is tuned specifically to absorb the shock of hitting a hard compression or bump at speed, which keeps the body of the car settled instead of letting it kick sideways, and that control is what puts more of the tyre’s contact patch back onto the road under load. On a car set up correctly, the result is handling that holds together as the surface changes underneath it rather than degrading through every rough section. XYZ built the damping curves and spring rates in this kit from its own Tarmac Rally racing programme rather than from a generic road-car baseline, which is the difference between a kit that copes with a stage and one designed for it.

Fitment for the Bmw 1 Series F21 4/6 CYL (excl. M-Technik. xDrive & EDC) (2011-2026)

This kit is specced for the F21-chassis 1 Series built between 2011 and 2026, covering both four- and six-cylinder engine variants. It’s built around the standard rear-wheel-drive drivetrain and conventional mechanical dampers – cars fitted with xDrive, factory M Sport suspension or Electronic Damper Control (EDC) fall outside this specific application and need a different kit variant.
