XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Audi S3 SPORTBACK 8V φ55 (Modified Rear Integrated) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2013-2020

The S3 Sportback 8V runs a factory electronic damping system on the rear axle, which means a straightforward coilover swap fights the car’s own control module rather than working with it. This Gravel Rally kit is built with the cancellation hardware needed to remove that conflict outright, so the rear end reads as a conventional, manually adjustable set-up once it is fitted.

For anyone running the 8V on loose surfaces rather than tarmac, that matters more than any headline spec. Rally-gravel driving loads the chassis in ways a road-going quattro was never tuned for: repeated big hits, compression spikes, and a need for the suspension to keep working after the fifth crest of the stage, not just the first.

What this coilover does for your 2013-2020 Audi S3 Sportback

Fitted to the 8V, this kit replaces both the spring/damper hardware and the factory damping-control logic on the rear axle, giving you a chassis that responds the same way on lap ten as it did on lap one. The long-stroke damper and long spring combination is built to soak up sustained chassis vibration and repeated high-speed compressions without the fade you get from a shorter-travel road set-up, which is exactly the failure mode a gravel stage exposes first. Inverted-tube construction keeps the working internals better shielded from the sandstone, snow and silt an S3 will pick up mid-stage, rather than exposed on a conventional upright tube. Because the electronic damping conflict is removed at the same time, the ride quality you feel on gravel is the one the spring and damper were actually set up to deliver, not a compromise negotiated with the OEM control unit. The result is a rear axle that can absorb sharp G-force spikes through direction changes without the harshness or unpredictability that comes from mismatched electronics and hardware.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Gravel Rally line specifically for rally and rallycross use, where road surface is more aggressive and unpredictable than anything a circuit throws at a car. The shock absorber carries more of the workload here than on any other discipline in the range, so the design starts from an inverted-tube layout intended to cope with the full spread of loose-surface conditions – sand, snow, silt – rather than a single road type. Stroke length and spring length are both extended compared with a track-focused unit, giving the damper room to deal with sustained chassis vibration and the repeated, aggressive hits that come off a fast, bumpy gravel road. That extra travel is also what lets the kit absorb heavy G-force loading through corners without bottoming out or transmitting the hit straight into the chassis. Every spring rate in the range has been set using data from an active rally racing programme rather than road-car assumptions, which is a different starting point to a fast-road or circuit coilover.

Fitment for the Audi S3 Sportback 8V (2013-2020)

This kit is built for the Audi S3 Sportback 8V, chassis code AU52-C, covering the 2013 to 2020 model years with the modified rear integrated set-up and the cancellation kit for electronic damping. Confirm your car uses the standard 8V rear electronic damping arrangement before ordering, since this fitment is specific to that configuration.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
