XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Audi A3 8V Φ50 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2012-2020

The multi-link rear axle fitted to the quattro-equipped Audi A3 8V changes what the car can do compared with the torsion-beam front-drive cars in the same range – each rear wheel moves independently over a broken surface instead of following its partner, which is exactly the geometry a closed-road stage rewards and a compromised setup wastes. The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover is built around that surface: cambers, crests, mid-corner compressions and the kind of pavement breaks a circuit-biased spring rate skips across rather than absorbs.

This fitment also covers the cancellation kit for cars that left the factory with electronically controlled damping. Swapping to a fixed mechanical damper on these A3s means removing the original DCC wiring from the loop, and doing that without a dashboard fault requires the resistor-cancellation hardware included here – so the change is clean rather than a wiring workaround.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3

On a stage, the A3’s multi-link rear needs to keep both tyres loaded through compressions without the axle skipping across the next bump before it’s absorbed the last one. The Tarmac Rally damper is set up to take that hit and keep the contact patch working, rather than transmitting it straight through the chassis and unsettling the car mid-corner. That translates into more usable traction out of tighter sections and a rear axle that stays predictable when the surface changes underneath it, which on an FWD-biased chassis under quattro power is where time is actually won or lost. Ride height is also adjustable, so the car can be set to the stage-specific rake a co-driver and driver agree on rather than a fixed factory figure.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ built the Tarmac Rally damper specifically around sealed-stage tarmac rally use rather than adapting a track-day unit. The valving is tuned to absorb the shock of uneven pavement and larger compressions without passing that impact straight into the body, which is the main failure point of a road-biased spring and damper combination once the surface starts breaking up mid-stage. That control is what keeps the tyre loaded and in contact rather than skipping, and it’s the basis of the stability XYZ describes as giving the driver a predictable, controllable car through a corner rather than one that’s reacting to the road. The damping settings themselves come directly out of XYZ’s own tarmac rally programme rather than a generic road-and-track compromise.

Fitment for the Audi A3 (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the Audi A3 8V, chassis code AU12-3-C, across the 2012-2020 production run, specifically the variant fitted with the rear multi-link suspension rather than the torsion-beam layout. It includes the cancellation kit required on cars originally specified with electronically controlled damping, so the factory DCC system can be removed from the loop cleanly.
