XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Audi A3 SPORTBACK 8V Φ50 (Rear Multi-Link Suspension) 2012-2020

Sealed-stage tarmac throws up compressions that OE-height rear multi-link geometry on the A3 Sportback 8V was never set up to absorb at speed. Crests, patched surfaces and mid-corner bumps load the rear axle unevenly, and standard dampers run out of control long before the front end does. The Tarmac Rally coilover is built specifically to keep that rear axle composed when the road surface stops behaving.

For an 8V Sportback built for closed-road or sealed-stage events between 2012 and 2020, this is damping calibrated for repeated high-speed impacts rather than a single big hit. It is not a fast-road compromise dressed up in a rally name; the valving is set for stage work first.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2020 Audi A3 Sportback

Fitted to the Φ50-body rear end, the kit is built to soak up the jolt from a hard-edged bump without the chassis kicking sideways, which matters on an 8V Sportback where a poorly controlled rear axle shows up as mid-corner instability rather than simple discomfort. Instead of the rear tyre skipping across broken tarmac and losing contact, the damper controls that wheel’s return stroke so the tyre stays loaded and the contact patch stays working. That translates directly into traction out of stage corners, where wheelspin off a compression costs more time than a slightly firmer ride ever will. The result on this specific 8V platform is a rear axle that tracks through a bumpy sequence instead of stepping out of line, with the front end freed up to do its job because the rear is no longer fighting the surface.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Tarmac Rally range around one job: controlling a car over a broken, high-speed stage road rather than a smooth circuit. The damper is tuned to absorb the impact of an uneven surface and specifically to soak up the jolt when the car crosses a large bump, so the body doesn’t pitch and unsettle the tyre’s grip on the next input. Suppressing that shock through the body is what keeps the tyre loaded rather than skipping, and that traction is the whole point of the spec. The valving in this range is drawn directly from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme rather than adapted from a track-day base, which is why the damper behaves differently under a single hard hit than a circuit-biased coilover would. The aim throughout is stability the driver can rely on mid-stage, not just a comfortable ride on smooth tarmac.

Fitment for the Audi A3 Sportback (2012-2020)

This kit is built for the 8V-generation A3 Sportback fitted with the Φ50 rear multi-link suspension layout (chassis code AU12-1), covering cars produced from 2012 through to 2020. Confirm your car uses the multi-link rear axle rather than a torsion-beam variant before ordering, as the two use different rear geometry and different dampers.
