XYZ Racing Drag Racing Coilovers — Toyota CELICA ZZT230/231 (Mcpherson Type) 1999-2006

The Celica ZZT231 GT-S is a specific challenge at the drag strip: the 2ZZ-GE’s VVTL-i cam profile switches hard above 6,200rpm, delivering its power in a way that loads the front tyres abruptly on a driven axle already fighting to maintain traction. Even the 1ZZ-FE-powered ZZT230, with its more measured delivery, exposes the front suspension’s natural tendency to unload under hard acceleration – the nose rises, weight shifts rearward, and the driven wheels lose bite. That fraction of a second before full traction is where 0-400 metre times are made or lost.

The XYZ Racing Drag Racing coilover for the Toyota Celica ZZT230/231 addresses this directly, engineered around the demands of the launch pad rather than adapted from a road-use design. Configured to manage front-to-rear weight transfer and increase compression load on the driven axle at the moment the clutch is released, these coilovers exist to reduce the idle phase between throttle application and full traction.

What this coilover does for your 1999-2006 Toyota Celica

Getting the ZZT230/231 to hook up cleanly from a standing start requires the front suspension to work against the natural weight transfer that drag racing loads onto any FWD car. These coilovers allow the driver to tune front spring and ride height settings so the driven axle stays loaded and compressed at launch rather than rising and unloading under acceleration. Contact patch pressure across both front tyres increases where it matters most – in the first metres of the run. The same geometry that closes the wheelspin window keeps the car planted and stable once speed builds through the high-speed section.

About the Drag Racing coilover

XYZ Racing designed the Drag Racing coilover series around 0-400 metre competition, with geometry that works across FWD, RWD, and 4WD configurations – each requiring its own approach to weight transfer at the launch line. The engineering principle is straightforward: the setup allows front-to-rear weight distribution to be adjusted according to where the driven wheels are, then compresses the suspension on that driven axle to maximise tyre contact under acceleration. On the Celica’s front-wheel-drive platform, that means the front end stays down and loaded rather than rising under throttle, cutting the delay between launch and grip. Ride height is adjustable, giving scope to tune for tyre profile, track surface, and launch rpm. High-speed stability – the car’s behaviour once it is up to speed through the traps – is built into the same geometry that governs the launch.

Fitment for the Toyota Celica ZZT230/231 (1999-2006)

These coilovers cover Toyota Celica chassis codes ZZT230 and ZZT231 from 1999 to 2006, spanning the seventh-generation model in both standard and GT-S specification. The McPherson-type designation refers to the front strut architecture shared across the ZZT230/231 range. Confirm the chassis code on your vehicle identification plate before ordering.

The coilovers are specially designed for 0~400 drag racing such as FWD, RWD or 4WD models. The setting allows vehicle to change the front and rear weight according to the transmission wheel in instant driving, and force the transmission tire having greater compression, which can reduce the idle time of wheel and improve the stability of the vehicle under high speed.
