XYZ Racing Drag Racing Coilovers — BMW Z3 M 1997-2001

The Z3 M punishes a clumsy launch. A short wheelbase, a narrow rear track and the old semi-trailing-arm rear axle mean the BM72 wants to squat, shimmy and spin its inside rear the instant the M straight-six loads up – traction off the line, not outright power, is what costs you the run. The XYZ Racing Drag Racing coilover for the BMW Z3 M is set up for that first sixty feet.

Where a fast-road kit chases body control through corners, this one is tuned around weight transfer under acceleration. It lets the rear of the car load hard as you launch, planting the driven tyres so the BM72 hooks up instead of lighting the rears and bogging the run.

What this coilover kit does for your 1997-2001 BMW Z3 M

On a rear-drive Z3 M, the gain you feel is at the start line. The damping and ride-height settings let the rear squat and compress the driven tyres on launch, cutting the wheelspin that normally bleeds a Z3 M’s first gear away. Less idle time at the rear contact patch means more of the engine’s torque turns into forward drive. Set the car low and level and it stays planted and stable as speed builds down the strip, rather than getting light and nervous near the top end.

About the Drag Racing coilover

XYZ Racing builds this coilover specifically for 0-400 metre drag work, and the same design philosophy covers front-, rear- and four-wheel-drive cars. The core idea is managed weight transfer: the spring and damper settings deliberately shift load between the front and rear axles during hard acceleration, forcing the driven tyre into greater compression for a bigger, harder-working contact patch. That extra compression is what reduces wheel idle – the brief moment of spin before the tyre bites – and what holds the car steady at high speed. It is a single-purpose setup, optimised for straight-line launch and stability rather than circuit lap times.

Fitment for the BMW Z3 M (1997-2001)

This kit is built for the BMW Z3 M, chassis code BM72, across the 1997 to 2001 model years. It fits the M Roadster and M Coupe on that platform. Confirm your exact build year against the configurator before ordering.

What buyers also search for

  • BMW Z3 M drag coilovers tuned for launch traction off the line
  • BM72 suspension for straight-line acceleration and high-speed stability
  • Z3 M roadster and coupe coilover kit for the strip
  • Rear-drive Z3 M setup that cuts first-gear wheelspin
  • Ride-height adjustable coilovers for the 1997-2001 Z3 M

Pick your spec and set your ride height for the BM72 in the configurator below.

The coilovers are specially designed for 0~400 drag racing such as FWD, RWD or 4WD models. The setting allows vehicle to change the front and rear weight according to the transmission wheel in instant driving, and force the transmission tire having greater compression, which can reduce the idle time of wheel and improve the stability of the vehicle under high speed.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

Front

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.

Rear

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
