Caliper render for this kit:

The R170 SLK 230 puts more mass over its tail than its compact roadster silhouette suggests. The folding vario-roof stows in the boot, loading the rear axle, and on a supercharged Kompressor that has to be hauled down from real speed the rear brakes do more work than the spec sheet implies. This XYZ Racing Hollow Rear Brake Kit replaces the standard rear setup on the SLK 230 R170 with hardware built to take repeated heat without the pedal going long.
It is a rear-axle upgrade for owners running their SLK harder than a Sunday cruise: fast B-road work, the occasional track session, or simply a car that now needs to stop with the authority a modern driver expects. Match the rear to a front kit and you keep a brake balance that stays consistent once the discs are hot.
What this brake kit does for your 1996-2004 Mercedes Benz SLK 230 R170
On the road you feel it first as a firmer, more progressive pedal, the kind that lets you lean on the rear brakes late into a corner without the squirm a tired standard setup gives a short-wheelbase RWD car. Three pad compounds let you set the car up for how you actually drive it: Street for daily use, Sport for harder fast-road duty with more bite and heat range, and Racing for track heat where fade resistance matters more than cold-stop manners. Because this is a rear kit, the biggest gain shows up under trail-braking and on long downhill sequences, where the SLK’s rear axle is working to keep the nose settled. Stopping distances tighten, but the real change is repeatability, as the tenth stop feels like the first. You can also colour-match the calipers so the upgrade reads through the wheels.
About the Hollow rear brake kit
The Hollow rear brake kit is XYZ Racing’s bolt-on rear-axle braking package for the SLK 230 R170, supplied as a matched pair of rear calipers, two-piece floating discs and pads sized for this chassis rather than adapted from a universal fit. The hollow-vane disc lowers rotating and unsprung mass while keeping the swept area you need for heat capacity. It is offered with three pad compounds, Street, Sport and Racing, so the same hardware covers a daily-driven car, a fast-road build and one that sees track time without swapping the underlying kit. The caliper body is hollow as standard, with an optional Hollow Racing upgrade for serious track use, rated to 1000C with no dust cover and a two-year warranty. Discs are drilled or slotted at the same price, with two-tone anodized or titanium centre bells selectable, and calipers come in no-cost Red, Yellow, Gold, Black or Anodized Black, premium polished-forged Titanium, Polished Gold or Polished Silver, candy Teal, Blue, Red or Orange, or a Custom Pantone for 150 pounds. The focus of a rear kit like this is heat management and consistent clamping under repeated use, so the pedal holds firm where an older standard rear setup would already be softening. As a rear-specific kit it is built to pair with a front upgrade, keeping front-to-rear balance correct, which matters on a light, short car like the SLK, where too much rear bias makes the tail nervous under braking.
Fitment for the Mercedes Benz SLK 230 R170 (1996-2004)
This kit is cut for the R170 SLK 230 built from 1996 to 2004, the first-generation Kompressor roadster, not the later R171. It fits the rear axle of the standard SLK 230 R170, so confirm your chassis code reads R170 before ordering. Pick your pad compound and caliper colour to match the spec to your car.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 330–356mm (rear). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
