Caliper render for this kit:

The W221 S 420 CDI is one of the heaviest cars this kit is built for: a full-size luxury saloon carrying the OM629 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 diesel and its mountain of low-down torque over the front axle. All that kerb weight has to be washed off somewhere, and on a long autobahn-pace cross-country run the rear axle takes more of that load than most owners expect. Standing on the brakes from three-figure cruising speeds, repeatedly, is exactly where a stock rear setup on a two-tonne barge starts to go soft.
The XYZ Racing Hollow Rear Brake Kit gives the W221 a rear end that holds its bite when the car is fully loaded and worked hard. It is a rear big brake kit aimed at owners who actually drive these cars at pace rather than waft, and who want the pedal to feel the same on the tenth heavy stop as it did on the first.
What this big brake kit does for your 2005-2013 Mercedes Benz S Class W221 S 420 CDI
After fitting, the first thing you feel is a firmer, more consistent rear contribution under hard braking, which settles the back of this long-wheelbase saloon and keeps it composed when you brake deep into a slip road or roundabout. The two-piece floating discs trim rotational mass at the rear hubs, which helps the heavy W221 react more honestly to inputs. With three pad compounds to choose from, you can match the kit to how you use the car: Street for quiet daily running, Sport for harder fast-road work with more bite and heat range, and Racing for sustained high-temperature use. The result is a rear axle that resists fade and gives you the confidence to lean on the brakes with a full diesel S-Class underneath you.
About the Hollow rear brake kit
The Hollow rear brake kit is named for its hollow-vane two-piece floating disc, which reduces rotational and unsprung mass at the rear of the car compared with a solid factory disc. It is supplied as a matched rear-axle package, a pair of rear calipers and discs, with a choice of three pad compounds: Street as the quiet, low-dust default, Sport for more bite and heat range, and Racing for sustained high-temperature work. The caliper body is hollow as standard, with an optional Hollow Racing upgrade for serious track use, rated to 1000C with no dust cover and a two-year warranty. Discs are drilled or slotted at the same price, with two-tone anodized or titanium centre bells selectable. Caliper finishes run from no-cost Red, Yellow, Gold, Black and Anodized Black through premium polished-forged Titanium, Polished Gold and Polished Silver, candy Teal, Blue, Red and Orange, or a Custom Pantone for 150 pounds, letting you tie the brake hardware to the look of the car behind the wheels. The design priority is thermal stability and repeatable pedal feel on a heavy platform, rather than chasing outright initial bite at the expense of consistency.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 330–356mm (rear). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
