Caliper render for this kit:

The E36 318’s lightweight four-cylinder nose gives it a more neutral balance than its six-cylinder siblings, which is a large part of why so many of these cars are still finding their way onto track days and drift days in 2026. What lets that balance down is the modest standard rear brake setup, which runs short of thermal headroom once you start stringing corners together. The XYZ Racing Hollow Rear Brake Kit for the BMW 3 Series E36 318 (1990-1998) goes after that weakness directly, adding heat capacity and consistency to the rear axle.
This is a rear-axle upgrade built for sustained use rather than a single hard stop. Supplied as a left-and-right pair, with a mass-conscious two-piece disc and a choice of three pad compounds, it lets you match the rear bias to how you actually use the car, from fast road to circuit work, without re-engineering the rest of the braking system.
What this rear brake kit does for your 1990-1998 BMW 3 Series E36 318
After fitting, the first thing you feel on the E36 318 is a firmer, more progressive rear bite that holds up once the brakes are hot. Because the factory rear discs are small and lose thermal headroom quickly, uprating the rear restores front-to-rear balance and stops the tail squatting and the nose pushing under heavy braking. The Racing pad compound brings the bite and fade resistance for circuit sessions, the Street compound keeps things quiet, clean and low on dust for road use, and the Sport compound bridges the two for hard road and the occasional track lap. Caliper colours from Red and Yellow through to Gold, Black or Anodized Black let the kit match the look of the build as well as its pace.
About the Hollow rear brake kit
The Hollow rear brake kit takes its name from the hollow-vane rotor on its two-piece floating disc, which trims rotating and unsprung mass at the rear axle rather than simply bolting on a heavier disc. Less rotating mass means the rear wheels spin up and slow more readily, and the suspension has less weight to control over bumps. It is supplied as a vehicle-specific kit for the E36 318, mounting as a pair, so the caliper, disc and mounting hardware are matched to the car rather than adapted from a universal package. The three pad compound choices, Street, Sport and Racing, let you set the kit up for daily use, hard road driving or track work without changing the hardware. Disc faces can be drilled or slotted at the same price, calipers run from the included Red, Yellow, Gold, Black and Anodized Black through to a Custom Color in any Pantone and premium polished-forged or candy finishes, and a Hollow Racing caliper upgrade is available for committed track use. It is a rear-only kit, intended to be run as a balanced pairing with a matching front upgrade, or to firm up the rear of a car whose front brakes have already been uprated.
Fitment for the BMW 3 Series E36 318 (1990-1998)
This kit is built specifically for the BMW 3 Series E36 318 across the 1990 to 1998 production run, mounting at the rear axle as a left-and-right pair. The 318 designation covers the four-cylinder cars in the range, so confirm your exact variant before ordering. Caliper colour and pad compound are both chosen when you order, so the kit you receive is set up for your car and your intended use.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 330–356mm (rear). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
