Caliper render for this kit:

The E28 525’s original ATE calipers were adequate for 1981, but the M30 2.5-litre straight-six is an engine that rewards commitment, and committed driving, on track or on the long-radius fast roads these cars were built for, quickly surfaces how little thermal margin the stock front braking hardware carries. After four decades, that margin has only narrowed: worn seals, tired pistons, and rotors that have shed most of their serviceable depth make the gap between what the E28 can do in a straight line and what it can do at the end of one wider than it should be.
The XYZ Racing Hollow Front Big Brake Kit for the BMW 5 Series E28 525 is a direct-fit front-axle replacement, a left and right pair of purpose-spec calipers on two-piece floating discs, that closes that gap. Set it up at the configurator above with a three-compound pad choice, Street, Sport, or Racing, covering everything from a preserved road car through to an E28 that spends weekends at Snetterton or Cadwell.
What this brake kit does for your 1981-1988 Bmw 5 SERIES E 28 525
The hollow-vane disc sheds heat faster than a conventional solid OE item, which matters considerably in an E28 pushed hard: fade resistance improves, pedal consistency holds across a session, and the reduced thermal soak on caliper seals extends service intervals beyond what original-spec components can reliably offer. The two-piece floating construction lets the friction ring expand without coning, keeping the rotor flat under sustained load. The front axle carries most of the E28’s braking effort as weight transfers forward, so upgrading here delivers the biggest change in confidence under trail-braking, helped by the reduced unsprung and rotating mass of the lighter front hardware. Three pad compounds let owners calibrate the kit precisely: Street for quiet, low-dust mixed road use; Sport for higher bite and a wider heat range on fast roads and the odd track day; Racing for the elevated operating temperatures a circuit generates. Calipers are available across a full colour range, which gives owners who have put effort into presenting a correct-looking E28 something worth seeing through the wheel aperture.
About the Hollow Front Brake Kit
XYZ Racing’s caliper is hollow-bodied as standard, which keeps unsprung rotating mass down while retaining the thermal capacity a genuine upgrade demands. The two-piece floating disc draws heat from the swept face more efficiently than a comparable solid-cast rotor under sustained braking load, the type of load a track day or a long descent at pace puts through a front brake circuit continuously. For harder track use, the optional Hollow Racing caliper drops the dust cover, is rated to 1000C, and is covered by a two-year warranty. Discs come drilled or slotted at the same price, with optional two-tone anodized centre bells in five colours or a titanium bell at checkout. The three pad options span meaningfully different use cases: Street covers everyday mixed conditions with low noise and dust; Sport raises the thermal ceiling and sharpens bite for harder road use; Racing is rated for the higher temperatures of competitive or intensive circuit driving. Caliper finishes run from the included Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, and Anodized Black at no extra cost, through a Custom Color in any Pantone, to premium polished Titanium, Polished Gold, and Polished Silver and candy Teal, Blue, Red, and Orange. The kit covers the front axle only.
Fitment for the Bmw 5 SERIES E 28 525 (1981-1988)
This front big brake kit is confirmed for the BMW 5 Series E28 in 525 specification, covering the full production run from 1981 to 1988. The E28 uses a MacPherson strut front suspension with a conventional hub arrangement that accepts the XYZ Racing caliper bracket without structural modification. Confirm your existing brake specification and production date before ordering, as some late-build E28s destined for specific markets left the factory with uprated optional brake packages.

Choosing your spec
Every kit is built to order around the choices you make above. Here is what each option actually changes, so you can spec yours with confidence.
Brake pads — Street, Sport or Racing
Every kit ships with a full set of high-performance pads; the compound is your call.
Street is the right default for fast-road driving — a strong, progressive cold bite with low noise, low dust and long disc life. Sport raises the working temperature and adds bite and fade resistance for hard road use and the occasional track day, while still behaving on a cold morning. Racing is a track compound built for sustained abuse: huge fade resistance and bite once heat is in it, at the cost of more noise and dust when cold. Match the pad to how hard you actually use the brakes — there is no benefit to a race pad that never gets up to temperature.
Caliper grade — Hollow vs Hollow Racing
Hollow is the standard caliper on every kit: a hollow-body forged caliper, lighter than a solid one, fitted with a dust cover and backed by a 5-year oil-leak warranty. For most fast-road and spirited track use it is all the caliper you need.
Hollow Racing is the track-grade upgrade. It runs the same hollow body but without a dust cover (so there is nothing to melt at sustained high temperature), uses a twin-metal piston that isolates heat travelling from the disc to the oil seal, and is rated to 1000°C. Available 286–380mm (front). Warranty is 2 years on oil leaks and 10 years on appearance. Built for professional racing and repeated track days.

Caliper colour & finish
Painted colours (Red, Yellow, Gold, Black, Anodized Black) are included at no cost. Want an exact match to your car? Custom Color (+£150) paints the calipers to any Pantone code you supply (15–20 day lead time).
Polished Forged finishes are the flagship: a forged caliper given a mirror-polished surface treatment that shifts colour with the viewing angle. Beyond the looks, the polished surface dissipates heat better, resists rust and stands up to the weather. Choose Titanium (neochrome, +£350), Polished Gold (+£300) or Polished Silver (+£250). They look their best paired with a titanium centre bell. Care: clean only with a dilute neutral cleaner or water.
Candy colours (+£200) use a deep candy-paint and polishing process for a mirror-reflection, boutique finish — pick Teal, Blue, Red or Orange (shown below right).

Centre bells
The centre bell is the CNC-machined aluminium hat that joins the disc to the hub. The standard anodized centre bell is included. The Two-tone bell (+£200) adds an anodized accent ring — choose Red, Yellow, Orange, Purple or Silver right here at checkout. The Titanium centre bell (+£500) is a forged titanium bell (bolts not included) that finishes off the polished-forged look.
