XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Toyota CAMRY XV20 (TYPE 1) 1997-2001

The XV20 Camry left the factory tuned for hushed motorway miles – long spring travel, soft damping, and a deliberate layer of isolation between the driver and the road. That brief made it a fine family saloon and a vague thing through a quick corner. The Racing Spec coilover sets out to undo that compromise entirely.

This is XYZ Racing’s circuit-focused damper, and on a nose-heavy front-drive Camry it has plenty to work with. The 2.2-litre four and the heavier 1MZ-FE V6 both load the front axle hard; the Racing Spec is built to control that mass under braking and turn-in rather than let it wash the front tyres wide.

What this coilover kit does for your 1997-2001 Toyota Camry XV20 (type 1)

Drop the ride height and the XV20’s centre of gravity falls with it, cutting the body roll and nose-dive that define the standard car. Firmer, motorsport-derived damping keeps the front tyres planted as weight transfers forward under braking, so the understeer the Camry leans on by default becomes something you can actually drive around. The rear settles and follows rather than floating, which hands the chassis a sense of rotation it never had from the factory. On a smooth circuit the payoff is a flatter, more predictable platform you can load up through long corners.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec sits at the track end of the XYZ Racing range, and its valving was developed through direct competition – the settings are drawn from WTCC running rather than a generic catalogue spec. That input shows in damping tuned for repeated hard laps rather than ride comfort. For cars carrying serious modification – heavy aero, slicks, the kind of preparation closer to an A-class racing build – XYZ Racing will produce custom-valved shock absorbers to order. You supply the detail: which parts you have changed and which circuit you intend to run, and the dampers are built around that combination rather than pulled off a shelf. For a track-prepared XV20 Camry that flexibility matters more than any single published figure.

Fitment for the Toyota Camry XV20 (type 1) (1997-2001)

This kit is matched to the XV20-generation Camry (chassis code TO12) across the 1997 to 2001 build span. It covers the type 1 car specifically, so confirm your chassis designation and production year against the listing before configuring.
