XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Proton SATRIA GTI 1997-2005

The Proton Satria GTI carries genuine rally heritage – Proton’s motorsport programme campaigned Satria-based machinery on gravel stages across Asia throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, and the GTI’s compact, Mitsubishi-derived platform proved well-suited to the discipline. When you are building one for gravel-stage work, that history matters, and so does choosing suspension designed from the outset for loose surfaces rather than adapted from a road or tarmac kit.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Proton Satria GTI 1997-2005 is built specifically for that environment. Inverted tube construction, extended stroke, and spring rates validated under competitive conditions mean this is a coilover that understands what the GTI is being asked to do.

What this coilover does for your 1997-2005 Proton SATRIA GTI

Inverting the tube assembly lowers the damper’s centre of gravity and reduces unsprung weight, which sharpens response over the sequential, unpredictable impacts of a gravel stage. Long-travel springs and matched stroke absorb the chassis vibration that accumulates on sandstone, silt, or snow-covered roads at speed – the kind of surface loading that causes a shorter-stroke setup to skip and lose line. Through high-speed gravel corners, where extreme lateral G-forces build rapidly, the assembly maintains the wheel contact the GTI’s platform needs to stay planted and controllable. The entire spring rate specification has been tested under rally competition, not extrapolated from a road damping curve.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

Rally Cross is the most physically aggressive surface category in stage competition, generating the largest impacts and the widest variation in road texture within a single event. The Gravel Rally range was developed to address that directly. Rather than applying a conventional twin-tube or canister construction, this unit uses an inverted tube design that frees up the stroke length needed for sandstone, snow, and silt – three surfaces that load the suspension in meaningfully different ways and demand a damper that handles all three without requiring a rebuild between stages. Long springs are paired with that extended stroke to manage the high-frequency, high-amplitude hits that build at competitive speeds on unpredictable gravel roads, while the damper assembly is also rated for the extreme G-forces generated in fast loose-surface cornering. Every spring rate configuration in the Gravel Rally lineup has been verified by rally racing teams rather than calculated in isolation, making the specification a product of real stage use.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
