The 987 Cayman’s mid-engine layout puts more mass over the rear axle than any 911, which on a loose gravel stage means the car wants to rotate the moment you lift or brake into a corner. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover is built around that reality rather than around b-road grip, giving the rear end somewhere to move without snapping straight into oversteer.

This version carries the cancellation kit for electronic damping, aimed at 987s that left the factory with PASM rather than passive dampers. Fitting this kit removes the factory ECU’s damper control entirely and replaces it with a fixed mechanical damper set up for stage work rather than road comfort.

Loose-surface driving loads a damper very differently to tarmac – wheels leave the ground, then land hard, dozens of times a lap. The long-stroke damper and long spring in this kit are built to soak up that repeated vibration without the harshness a short-travel road coilover would transmit straight into the chassis. The inverted-tube construction keeps the shaft protected from the sandstone and silt that would eat away at a conventional tube design, so damping quality doesn’t fall off as a stage goes on. XYZ Racing developed the Gravel Rally coilover specifically for rally and rally-cross use, where road surfaces are about as punishing as a competition car will face. The inverted-tube layout was chosen to deal with the different debris a stage throws at a damper – sandstone, snow, silt – without the shaft picking up the damage a standard tube design would suffer over a season. Stroke length and spring length are both extended well beyond road-going specification, giving the damper room to absorb chassis vibration from high-speed, broken surfaces and to cope with the extreme cornering loads a rally car generates. Every spring rate offered in this kit has been run and validated by an active rally racing team rather than set on a bench rig, so the rates on the configurator reflect what has actually worked under stage conditions.
