XYZ Racing Top Sport Coilovers — Nissan SKYLINE R33 GTST 1995-1998

The R33 Skyline GT-S T arrived in 1995 with a longer wheelbase than its predecessor and a suspension tune that erred firmly toward comfort. On the road, that compliance is tolerable. At a track day, it translates into body roll that blurs the mid-corner messages coming up through the steering, and a damping characteristic that feels overworked the moment the RB25DET’s torque starts loading up the rear axle.

XYZ Racing’s Top Sport specification is calibrated for track day use rather than dedicated race preparation. Spring rates sit 2 kg/mm above street-biased settings and damping is increased 30-50% over factory baseline – enough to sharpen the R33’s naturally soft chassis without making the cabin miserable on the drive home.

What this coilover does for your 1995-1998 Nissan Skyline R33 GTST

The R33 GTST’s MacPherson front strut and multi-link rear respond well to increased spring rate – the chassis has the geometry to use the stiffness productively. Where the stock setup compresses under hard braking and lets the nose pitch down, the Top Sport springs resist that dive and keep the front planted through trail-braking. Rear body roll in tighter corners becomes easier to read and manage, which matters when the RB25DET is loading the rear wheels hard on corner exit. The stiffer damping also suppresses the rhythmic pitch-and-recover sequence the factory calibration shows on undulating circuit sections, improving tyre traction consistency over crests and through compression zones.

About the Top Sport coilover

The Top Sport series represents XYZ Racing’s dual-use specification – increased spring rates and a 30-50% bump in damping force, with all settings drawn from XYZ’s own competitive experience. The construction is tuned to absorb the impact of uneven surfaces and large bumps without passing that jolt directly into the shell – a relevant consideration in the UK, where the road to the circuit paddock frequently involves patched tarmac and broken kerbs. Shock body movement is actively suppressed to raise tyre traction and maintain vehicle stability under aggressive driving. The Top Sport sits above a pure street setup but stops short of a full stiffness race configuration, making it the specification for drivers who use their car hard on track days but want something they can live with the rest of the week.

Fitment for the Nissan Skyline R33 GTST (1995-1998)

This kit is built to chassis code NI38 – the Nissan Skyline R33 GT-S T in production from 1995 to 1998. The GTST designation covers the turbocharged, rear-wheel-drive coupe and saloon variants; it does not cover the four-wheel-drive GT-R. If you are unsure which R33 variant you have, confirm the chassis plate before ordering.
