XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mitsubishi FTO 1994-1997

Front-wheel drive on a loose stage is a particular kind of demanding: the MT21 FTO’s front axle steers, drives, and brakes all at once, and when grip breaks on gravel, the driver has far less margin than an AWD competitor. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover kit for the Mitsubishi FTO (1994-1997) addresses that environment directly – built for unpredictable surfaces, aggressive suspension travel, and the sustained mechanical loads of gravel-stage or Rallycross competition.

Standard dampers simply are not built for this. The FTO’s light kerbweight is an advantage on loose surfaces, but without adequate stroke and structural stiffness against lateral forces through corners, even a nimble FWD coupe runs out of composure before the stage does.

What this coilover does for your 1994-1997 Mitsubishi FTO

The inverted-tube construction moves the larger-diameter damper section upward, reducing unsprung mass at the wheel hub and stiffening the assembly against the lateral flex that broken terrain imposes at speed. Extended spring length and long damper stroke give the MT21’s suspension geometry room to fully cycle over rocks, ruts, and sharp crests – inputs that would top out a road-spec damper and transfer immediately into the steering column. On a FWD platform where the front tyres simultaneously manage drive, steering, and braking loads, that travel reserve is what separates a controlled slide from a loss of direction at the worst possible point on the stage.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally series is XYZ Racing’s competition-specification kit for the most demanding surface category in motorsport. Rally Cross subjects a car to sandstone, snow, and silt within a single event – conditions that require a damper capable of absorbing chassis vibration and sustaining extreme G-forces through high-speed direction changes simultaneously. The inverted-tube design provides the structural backbone for this: rigidity under lateral load, with the extended stroke range that loose-surface stages demand. Long springs resist bottoming under the aggressive, high-frequency impacts of gravel competition, while spring rate settings validated by rally racing teams under competition conditions ensure the valving performs as intended on the stage, not just in a test environment.

What buyers also search for

  • Mitsubishi FTO MT21 coilover suspension built for gravel rally and Rallycross competition conditions
  • FTO 1994-1997 long-travel damper upgrade for loose-surface rally stages and club-level events
  • Mitsubishi FTO suspension that handles sandstone, snow, and silt without losing front-axle composure under load
  • XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for MT21 FWD rally builds where stroke travel and structural rigidity matter

The FTO’s FWD layout is one of the more technically demanding starting points for a gravel rally build – this kit is the right foundation for it. Select your specification and configure yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
